About this opportunity:
Receives, sorts, and stores donated items in the Warehouse storage area; determines the acceptability of donated items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.
Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.
Key responsibilities:
Ability to meet attendance requirements; Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects; Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work requires riding in a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Key responsibilities:
- Receives, inspects and sorts donated items according to the category and condition.
- Selects items suitable for storage and distributes same to appropriate storage area in accordance with established procedures.
- Tags items with dates in accordance with established procedures.
- Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly; assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area.
- Prepares non-suitable items for discard.
- Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing and storage.
- Maintains inventory of items in storage; reports any known entries after hours or missing items.
- Discourages unauthorized visitors in the warehouse area; notifies supervisor immediately of the same.
- Maintains warehouse and loading dock area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas.
- Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand written directions.
- Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
- Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
- Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
- Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
- Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
- Loads truck of items to be taken to the dump.
- Delivers appliances and furniture purchased by customers.
- Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed.
- Responds to request from the Corps Administration for furnishing, equipment and supplies.
- May assist in answering the telephone; provides general information and records messages.
- May assist in preparing receipts for items received from vendors and donors.
- Provides assistance to the food pantry as needed.
- Counts daily income when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- No formal education or experience required.
- Six (6) months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture.
