About this opportunity :
Assists the Development Director with fulfilling donor relations, public relations and community relations duties as required of the Development Department. Recruits and trains volunteers to assist in performing program work and disaster relief work, when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Generates story ideas and drafts news releases for review by Director of Development on a regular basis. Creates public awareness of Salvation Army programs, activities, accomplishments, events and needs. Participates in PR Committee meetings.
- Serves as a liaison to the news media and public, setting forth a clear image of The Salvation Army programs, services, and special events. Maintains contact with all local news media (including print, radio and television). Work on identifying pro-bono media opportunities to share news of the Salvation Army programs
- Interacts professionally with community supporters, including Advisor Board, Auxiliary, donors, members of the media, etc. Assists with special events planned and organized by the Development Department.
- Provides donor research to identify major gift prospects, determine gift potential, memberships, relationships, education, vocational or other linkages to The Salvation Army.
- Assist the Red Kettle Bell-Ringing employees and volunteers; process by recruiting new volunteer groups, keeps existing groups involved, keeps track of kettle staffers and daily kettle totals; makes scheduling changes when necessary.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, but may be performed periodically in disaster service areas and camp settings.
