NOTE: This position is for our Sheffield Family Store location.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, administers, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of a single Thrift Store with a limited staff ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; processes, displays, and prices donated items to ensure a reasonable financial return on the sale of store items; assists customers in a polite and friendly manner; prepares store displays that are attractive, neat, and orderly; rotates and re-stocks store merchandise to ensure quick turnover; ensures the accountability and security of all store items and funds. Plans, schedules, assigns, and evaluates work of Store and warehouse/sorting room personnel.

Administers and monitors the day-to-day operations of a single Thrift Store; supervises volunteers, beneficiaries, and/or subordinate store personnel; trains and instructs staff in the proper methods and procedures for performing work; inspects work in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
Plans, schedules, assigns, and evaluates work of Store Clerks, Sorting Room Workers, and other employees of the Thrift Store; instructs and trains employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with established store policies and procedures; assists employees in resolving operational or personnel problems; evaluates employees performance and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
Collaborates with the Corps Officer to maintain awareness of daily and weekly sales goals; provides sales reports as requested and ensures appropriate events are implemented to fulfill the goals.
Plans, supervises and participates in the layout and display of store merchandise to maximize sales; ensures that stock is routinely rotated and ensures that prices encourage the desired level of stock turnover; plans, organizes, and supervises the preparation of displays for special promotions or seasons; notifies the warehouse personnel of low-stock items.
Supervises and participates in the receiving, sorting, pricing, and distribution of donated items in the warehouse; ensures that items are processed in a timely manner and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area, may assist with hauling donations to the storage area; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.
Prepares and delivers bank deposits
Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customer's have handled.
Assists in cleaning all display racks and shelves; sweeping and mopping floors; cleaning windows and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Opens and/or closes store doors in accordance with the store schedule.
Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information.
Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.
Prepares and maintains a variety of Thrift Store sales reports, records, logs, etc.; ensures the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the same.
May drive a Salvation Army truck to pick-up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers and transport items to other locations; operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations; lifts, carries, loads and unloads variety of donations including furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.; ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times.
Transports and supervises the work of volunteer beneficiaries assisting in the delivery and pick-up of store items.
Schedules donation pick-ups; ensures the accountability of all donated items; ensures donations are collected in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment for the store and warehouse operations.
Recruits and supervises volunteers working in the Thrift Store and warehouse.
Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or G.E.D.
and
Two years progressively responsible experience working in a retail store environment with at least one year experience in a supervisory capacity,
or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Driver’s License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of retail store management.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer relations.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete bookkeeping records.
Ability to evaluate overall store operations in order to detect deficiencies and implement appropriate corrective action.
Ability to price donated merchandise reasonably and fairly.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to perform mathematical computations.
Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy objects (25-50 lbs.).
