Position Description

The Sanneh Events and Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will improve event planning processes and volunteer engagement to increase support and resources for Sanneh programs, ultimately enhancing learning outcomes for diverse and low-income youth. This role will focus on strengthening community awareness and participation by improving event planning, coordination, and volunteer management processes, fostering greater community involvement in Sanneh’s mission to empower youth through educational and recreational opportunities.

Role and Responsibilities

 Strengthen the effectiveness of event planning and volunteer management to enhance community support and engagement in Sanneh programs. Build sustainable systems for event coordination, volunteer recruitment, and management that support the ongoing success of Sanneh programs. Increase participation and visibility of Sanneh’s programs through well-executed events and strong volunteer support.

ACTIVITIES  (Q1-Q4):

  • Program Familiarization:

    • Review sustainability materials from prior VISTA to understand existing processes and systems for events and volunteer management.

    • Learn Sanneh’s organizational history, become familiar with core programs, activities, and major events.

    • Review the planned calendar of events for the term of service and identify key events that require support.

    • Learn the current volunteer management system and understand key metrics relevant to volunteer data collection and report generation.

    • Identify internal and external professional development opportunities to increase knowledge in nonprofit events and volunteer management.

ACTIVITIES (Q1-Q4):

  • Event Planning and Community Engagement:

    • Increase awareness of Sanneh’s programs through community events and presentations.

    • Manage event details using improved event planning processes, ensuring smooth execution.

    • Develop and implement documentation systems and timelines for specific events, including deadlines and milestones.

    • Begin building and managing volunteer recruitment and placement to support events.

    • Engage professional development resources to increase skills related to event activation and management.

ACTIVITIES (Q1-Q4):

  • Continued Event and Volunteer Support:

    • Continue to raise awareness of Sanneh’s programs through ongoing community events and presentations.

    • Refine event management processes and documentation systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of event planning.

    • Expand volunteer recruitment and engagement strategies to ensure ongoing support for Sanneh’s community events and activities.

    • Continue to engage professional development resources to deepen knowledge and skills related to event activation and volunteer management.

ACTIVITIES (Q1-Q4):

  • Event Integration and Sustainability:

    • Create an integrated calendar for events planned or anticipated in the future, ensuring proper coordination and resource allocation.

    • Finish thorough documentation of systems, processes, and practices related to event planning and volunteer management.

    • Continually update and improve the existing handbook...and create systems if best practice.

OBJECTIVES of the ASSIGNMENT (Volunteer Management):

Improve the volunteer recruitment and management processes to strengthen the Sanneh network of individual and organizational partners. Increase volunteer satisfaction and participation by creating effective systems for communication and support.

ACTIVITIES  (Q1-Q4):

  • Volunteer System Familiarization:

    • Review sustainability materials from prior VISTA to understand existing volunteer management systems.

    • Learn Sanneh’s organizational history and become familiar with core programs, activities, and volunteer needs.

    • Familiarize yourself with the current volunteer management system, including key metrics relevant to volunteer data collection and report generation.

    • Enhance community events and program activities by supporting volunteer placement and engagement.

    • Identify internal and external professional development resources related to successful volunteer recruitment and management.

ACTIVITIES  (Q1-Q4):

  • Volunteer Engagement and Reporting:

    • Create and enhance weekly volunteer reports, tracking key metrics such as volunteer hours, engagement, and retention.

    • Implement new methods of communication to improve volunteer satisfaction and retention.

    • Develop volunteer recruitment strategies to increase the number of volunteers from both individuals and organizations.

    • Plan and activate volunteer and partnership opportunities in coordination with Sanneh’s program schedule.

    • Continue engaging professional development resources to increase knowledge of volunteer recruitment and management.

ACTIVITIES  (Q1-Q4):

  • Volunteer Stewardship and Support:

    • Continue creating weekly volunteer reports and refining improvements based on feedback and performance data.

    • Implement and refine systems to strengthen volunteer stewardship and improve volunteer satisfaction.

    • Expand volunteer recruitment efforts, focusing on both individuals and organizational partnerships.

    • Continue enhancing community events and program activities with volunteer placement and support.

ACTIVITIES (Q1-Q4):

  • Volunteer Sustainability and Documentation:

    • Finalize weekly volunteer reports and develop an annual report summarizing volunteer participation and contributions.

    • Continue implementing systems to strengthen volunteer stewardship, focusing on improving communication to enhance the volunteer experience.

    • Finish documenting systems, processes, and practices related to volunteerism.

    • Develop a comprehensive handbook to sustain new volunteer management systems, process improvements, and best practices for future use.

This role offers the opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact on Sanneh’s community outreach efforts by improving event planning processes and building a stronger network of volunteers who will support and sustain the organization’s mission to empower diverse youth through education and community engagement.

Preferred Education & Qualifications


  • AmeriCorps VISTA’s must be 18 years or older.

  • Have a Valid Drivers License.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have lawful permanent residency.

  • Desire to work in a growing nonprofit organization with a strong commitment to the mission of helping low-income students earn college admission and persist toward degree completion.
