Position Description

 The Girls First Sports Program Coordinator VISTA will support and enhance the Girls First program, based at Conway, under the direct supervision of Joanna and with site oversight from Crystal and Oz. This position focuses on designing and facilitating activities that create a supportive and inclusive environment for femme-identifying youth, ensuring program compliance with femme-only reservations, and engaging in community outreach efforts. The VISTA will work to increase participation, raise awareness, and connect local organizations, schools, and families to the program, providing empowerment and growth opportunities for young femmes within their community.

Role and Responsibilities

 Strengthen the capacity of the Girls First program to provide inclusive, empowering sports opportunities for femme-identifying youth. Engage in outreach to local organizations and schools to increase program participation and awareness. Contribute to the development of new initiatives that support the growth and success of the Girls First program.

ACTIVITIES (Q1-4):

  • Orientation and Program Familiarization:

    • Learn the history and goals of the Girls First program, with a focus on the specific needs of femme-identifying youth.

    • Become familiar with existing program materials, structure, and scheduling.

  • Program Design and Facilitation:

    • Assist in designing inclusive activities and sports initiatives that align with the goals of the Girls First program.

    • Facilitate weekend field trips and outreach programs to ensure they support the program's goals and provide enriching experiences for participants.

  • Community Outreach:

    • Conduct outreach to local schools, organizations, and community groups to increase participation in the Girls First program.

    • Collaborate with families to raise awareness about the program and encourage enrollment.

ACTIVITIES (Q1-4):

  • Program Compliance and Monitoring:

    • Ensure all program activities and events maintain compliance with the requirement of femme-only reservations and remain safe and inclusive for all participants.

    • Monitor and assess program effectiveness, gathering feedback from participants and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement.

  • Development of New Initiatives:

    • Contribute to the creation of new initiatives and resources designed to continually improve the program and provide additional opportunities for empowerment and personal growth for femme-identifying youth.

ACTIVITIES (Q1-4):

  • Capacity Building:

    • Collaborate with staff to ensure the sustainability of the Girls First program by helping to streamline processes and systems.

    • Support the development of new materials, partnerships, and resources to ensure continued program success and growth.

  • Evaluation and Documentation:

    • Assist in the documentation of program activities, outcomes, and best practices to share with stakeholders and funders.

    • Contribute to creating a guide or toolkit that will help maintain and expand the Girls First program in the future.

Preferred Education & Qualifications


  • AmeriCorps VISTA’s must be 18 years or older.

  • Have a Valid Drivers License.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have lawful permanent residency.

  • Desire to work in a growing nonprofit organization with a strong commitment to the mission of helping low-income students earn college admission and persist toward degree completion.
