JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL :
To assist the manager in directing a small to large staff of employees engaged in the preparation and serving of a variety of quality meals in a Food and Nutrition Services establishment.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- High School Diploma or approved equivalency diploma.
- Serv-Safe Certification (or receive within 6 months)
- Must pass a physical exam.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of the planning, preparation and service of a large variety of foods. Knowledge of the uses of a variety of food service equipment. Knowledge of food values and nutrition. Knowledge of health, sanitary and safety practices in the food service operation. Knowledge of the storage of food and non-food supplies. Ability to supervise the preparation of economical, nutritious and attractive meals. Ability to supervise and train food service personnel. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with manager, employees, students, and school personnel. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to market the School Lunch program to students, parents, school administration, and community. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize activities. Ability to effectively use all food service computer software applications. Ability to collaborate, plan, implement programs, and problem solve with the manager.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Assist manager with interviewing applicants and making recommendations for employmentAssist manager with the training of new personnelPlan, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of subordinates through daily work and cleaning schedulesSupervise and assist in the preparation and service of approved meal and a la carte offerings as requiredSupervise the packaging and transport of lunches for assigned satellite feeding programsSupervise care, maintenance, and use of equipmentAssist manager with orders and requisitionsReceive food and non-food shipments to cafeteria in accordance with centrally approved practicesAssist manager with requisition of needed repair and maintenance workAssist manager with implementation and maintaining standards pertaining to sanitation and safety, personal hygiene and dress, and the handling / storage of food and other suppliesBank monies collected from approved meal servicesInteract with parents, outside agencies, business and community to enhance understanding of district initiatives and priorities and to elicit support and assistanceKeep immediate supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual eventsMaintain a network of peer contacts through professional organizationsRepresent the district in a positive and professional mannerWork closely with food service manager, district and schools staffs to support school improvement initiatives and processesProvide leadership and direction for assigned areas of responsibilityAssist the manager in facilitating the development, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities in assigned areas. This includes recommendation for terminationAttend training sessions, conferences and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issuesAssist manager in preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate recordsDemonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate actionPerform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this positionPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force and / or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
Stand for up to six (6) continuous hoursStoop, squat, kneel, and / or bend in a manner that allows the palms to touch the floor (as in cleaning baseboards, equipment, etc.)Bend from a standing position in a manner that allows the palms to touch the knees (as in washing of pots and pans in deep sinks, and cleaning milk boxes)Bend from the waist in a standing position with the arms outstretched for an extended period of time (as in the service of food)Twist, turn, and / or stretch from side to side that allows the shoulders to be perpendicular to the hips (as in sweeping, mopping, stocking shelves removing food from ovens)Lift, carry, and / or support 30 pounds from shoulder level to above head (as in placing food in ovens, freezer, stockroom shelves etc.)Work with caustic and non-caustic chemicalsWork in hot, humid environmentPerform duties requiring repetitive motions with hands and wrist (as in slicing, dicing, washing, counting money, writing, scrubbing, scraping, etc.)TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
