We are seeking a Director of fleet Services to join our team! This position oversees the daily operations and maintenance of the School District’s automotive fleet, including yellow school buses and non-bus vehicles. Provides leadership and strategic direction to ensure fleet reliability, safety, and efficiency. Responsibilities include addressing staffing shortages, coordinating maintenance schedules, and implementing cost-saving initiatives to optimize fleet performance. Additionally, it supports the district’s long-term objectives by driving efforts to modernize fleet infrastructure through electrification and propane initiatives, aligning fleet operations with the district’s sustainability goals and future growth plans.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the district's fleet of yellow buses and non-bus vehicles across four garages, ensuring efficient resource allocation and optimal performance focused on reliability, efficiency, and safety.
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including safety and emission standards, by maintaining updated inspection, certification, and vehicle license records.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime, manage timely and cost-effective repairs, and coordinate with the maintenance team to address urgent issues and emergencies.
- Recruit, hire, and retain qualified mechanics and support staff to address shortages, oversee training programs to enhance skills and safety practices, and provide ongoing support and professional development to maintain high performance.
- Monitor fleet expenses, implement cost-saving strategies to reduce operational costs while maintaining quality and safety, and collaborate with finance to prepare and manage operations, maintenance, and fuel budgets.
- Lead fleet modernization initiatives, including electrification and propane integration, to meet sustainability goals and implement technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
- Develop, enforce, and communicate policies that promote fleet efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance to all personnel and stakeholders.
- Use fleet management systems to collect and analyze vehicle performance, maintenance, and fuel consumption data, generating regular reports to inform decision-making and ensure stakeholder transparency.
- Collaborate with transportation leadership to develop long-term fleet strategies that support district-wide goals through operational improvements, sustainability initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, engineering, transportation management, or a related field.
- Eight years of full-time, paid, progressively responsible experience managing a transportation system in a school district or urban setting, three of which have been in a broad management position.
