Job Summary
- Plans, directs and oversees activities designed to ensure that new, novice, and developing teachers have access to information, learning opportunities, and job-embedded development to build their capacity as educators, with the goal of retaining all educators who embody our organizational values.
- Develops and implements strategies that support instruction and facilitates the District’s capability to sustain improved student achievement.
- Oversees the development and implementation of programming specific to new and novice teachers in the District, including teachers with an emergency certificate.
- Collaborates with other offices to ensure professional learning activities are aligned and have the intended impact for new, novice, and developing teachers.
- Oversees the teaching coaching programs so that there is a comprehensive and aligned approach to instructional coaching throughout the District.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates and aligns educational initiatives to ensure continued progress in student achievement; ensures that effective professional learning structures are in place to address the instructional, planning, and classroom environment needs of new, novice, and developing teachers in the District; determines new and innovative professional learning structures which support instruction and sustain the gains made in academic achievement.
- Provides leadership in the planning and implementation of professional learning activities in various content areas that support the teaching and learning practices of new, novice, and developing teachers in alignment with the District’s strategic plan.
- Serves as the Deputy Chief of Teaching and Learning’s liaison to all of the education offices for professional learning programming for new, novice, and developing teachers.
- Coordinates efforts with universities and educational organizations to ensure that the professional development needs of new, novice, and emergency certified teachers are met; identifies and establishes contact with service providers.
- Oversees all teacher coaching programs, including the implementation of the coaching framework across the District.
- Works with administrators to manage relationships with coaches embedded in a school building; plans and facilitates professional learning for school-based and central office leaders regarding the coaching framework.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of professional learning for new, novice, and developing teachers.
- Partners with the Office of Talent and Philadelphia Federation of Teachers to implement the Peer Assistance and Review program.
- Develops and administers program budget; prepares and submits proposals for grants.
- Supports with coordination of content and logistics for large-scale professional learning events specific to new and novice teachers.
- Supervises the team in implementing the vision of the office.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ten years of full-time, paid, professional experience in education, five of which have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and have included responsibility for planning, developing and implementing staff development programs in alignment with educational initiatives for instructional staff.
Certificates/Licenses
- Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania administrative certificate or supervisory certificate in Elementary or Secondary Education
