Job Summary
Leads, coordinates and oversees the work of Climate and Culture Coaches through the creation and development of a Climate and Culture Framework. Support teams in facilitating evidence-based programming in alignment with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) School Plans and the Board of Education Goals and Guardrails. Coordinates the delivery of professional development to school based leadership teams and staff for climate programming including: community meetings, social-emotional programming, recess and lunch programming, and a range of other programs. Participates in systems-level planning, monitors implementation, and identifies present and emerging needs through data collection and analysis and ongoing communication with school based teams.
This specialty supports the development of positive schools where all students and adults experience the belonging and engagement that support maximal learning and social emotional development. Assists schools in implementing comprehensive multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) using SDP’s Student Well-being Survey (SWBS) as a key tool.
These strategies are designed to improve school staff behavior management practices, as well as school and classroom climate, for the purpose of improved student behavior and academic success. Supports schools in developing the infrastructure to support effective climate practices, and in implementing climate programming with fidelity. Supports the use of data within and across schools to guide decision-making about climate programs and interventions. Participates in systems-level planning, monitors implementation, and identifies present and emerging needs through data collection and analysis, and ongoing communications with school teams.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates the activities of Climate and Culture Coaches and ensures that departmental goals are being met and that schools receive the necessary support to successfully implement Tier 1 and Tier 2 strategies; addresses problems incurred in the daily operations and ensures that departmental policies and procedures are being followed.
- Participates in all activities related to the support of schools District-wide in providing positive, welcoming, equitable school environments that support all students’ academic and social-emotional development.
- Serves as a content expert in the development of the climate portion of the PDE school plans; uses data, supports and monitors implementation of the climate activities specified in PDE school plans; ensure schools are on track to achieve the goals identified in their plans.
- Provides expert consultation and training to schools to ensure implementation fidelity across all schools in alignment with the PDE school plans.
- Leads and coordinates the delivery of professional development of Tier 1 Climate programming to school-based staff and administrators, including principals, assistant principals, climate leads (i.e. Deans, Climate Managers, Specialist and Liaisons) and performs the daily duties of a Climate and Culture Coach serving a given Learning Network.
- Maintains communication within the school and connects the team to necessary resources for successful implementation of Tier 1 & 2 programming; provides technical assistance and determines data collection needs.
- Works in conjunction with the Director to ensure implementation of essential practices as outlined in the PDE school plans.
- Analyzes data to monitor the effectiveness of targeted and supplemental behavioral interventions (i.e. attendance, bullying and harassment, office discipline referrals and others as necessary).
• Consults with the Office of Student Support Services to ensure alignment across projects. • Consults with other District staff, including those in Student Support Services to provide consultation and training.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Five years of full-time, paid, professional experience, which has included working with evidence-based interventions, developing and implementing professional development, and working with school-based staff and youth in an urban setting.

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Seven years of full-time, paid, professional experience, which has included working with evidence-based interventions, developing and implementing professional development, and working with school-based staff and youth in an urban setting.
OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of:
o Tier 1 strategies, including, but not limited to Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS), Restorative Practices, and Social Emotional Learning. o early intervention services.
o principles, practices and techniques used when working with at-risk student populations.
