Job Duties
The Science Museum of Virginia seeks a motivated and diligent Housekeeping Supervisor with a passion for cleanliness, leadership, and ensuring an exceptional experience for guests.
As a Housekeeping Supervisor, you will lead a dedicated team of housekeeping staff, ensuring all museum spaces are prepared and spotless for guests, staff, and special events. You will work closely with the team to uphold the Museum’s cleanliness standards while staying aligned with the dynamic nature of museum operations. This is a working supervisor position, meaning you will lead by example, actively participating in the cleaning tasks alongside your team. Some key responsibilities include but are not limited to: overseeing and assigning housekeeping tasks to staff, ensuring cleanliness standards are consistently met; inspect completed tasks to verify the quality of work and ensure high standards; managing staff schedules, including shift assignments and organizing replacements as necessary; addressing and resolving any complaints related to housekeeping services promptly and professionally; regularly check the inventory of cleaning supplies and place orders when stock is low; performing hands-on cleaning duties when necessary and participate in large cleaning projects as needed and monitoring the Museum’s Master Calendar to ensure all event and meeting spaces are clean and ready prior to use.
The schedule for this position will vary based on the Museum's event schedule. Evening and weekends are required with availability on weekdays, nights, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications
An ideal candidate will possess demonstrated experience supervising and evaluating staff as well as considerable knowledge of cleaning techniques, methods, materials, equipment, and chemicals for a wide variety of surfaces and materials and sanitation standards for a public facility. Be self-motivated, work well independently and as part of a team, and schedule as well as manage the work of a housekeeping staff for daily housekeeping activities and special events. Excellent oral communication skills and problem-solving skills. Be able to apply and interpret policies and procedures and evaluate resource needs. Be able to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, including lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), frequent standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, and reaching on a daily basis.
Additional Considerations
Candidate must have supervisory experience in housekeeping/custodial environment in a multi-shift, multiple building setting.
