Project Details

Our client is seeking an OSP Test Engineer to focus on coax testing certifications for OSP equipment. This role is centered around physical infrastructure, including load tests and test certifications, rather than network configurations or software. The primary responsibility is ensuring that all components meet specifications for real-world installation and maintenance.

Experience in coax splicing (connecting coaxial cables), fieldwork, installation, and maintenance is essential. Ideally, candidates should also have experience working with headend or hub sites (central locations where signals are processed and distributed) or have direct Outside Plant (OSP) experience, which involves working with cables and infrastructure outside of buildings.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable with hands-on work, including testing, certifying, and installing equipment in the field. Practical experience in these areas will be key to success in this role.

Required Technical Skills

  • 4 years of Network Installation or Equipment testing experience, either in the field or lab environment
  • Proficient knowledge of Coax, Fiber, Optic, and/or Ethernet cables
  • Proficient knowledge of RF test equipment (Keysight, Rhode &Schwartz, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge of related industry specifications and standards (SCTE, ANSI, IEEE, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge with Amplifiers and/or line extenders

Team Fit

  • Eager to learn and expand skills beyond installations.
  • Strong communication skills, open to feedback.
  • Collaborative personality who works well across teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with ISP (Inside Plant) or OSP (Outside Plant).
  • Optics experience.
  • Knowledge of power transmission (AC/DC), egress leakage, RFI, and channel noise.
  • Experience with S-parameters, BER, or MER.
  • Knowledge of CATV devices and outside plant network design.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Test all equipment installed outside of customers' homes and connected to the Network.
  • Procure outside vendors to test OSP hardware in the lab on a weekly rotation, ensuring durability and reliability before field deployment.
  • Test and certify OSP equipment and some ISP equipment, including:
    • Taps (devices for branching signals from a main line)
    • Pedestals (enclosures for networking equipment)
    • Nodes (signal distribution points)
    • Amplifiers (devices to boost signal strength)
    • Additional components like splinters, connectors, coaxial cables, and fiber optics.
  • Ensure all equipment meets industry standards before deployment in the network.
  • Assist with planning, forecasting, and evaluating products submitted for qualification.
  • Follow test methods and processes developed by Principal Engineers.
  • Coordinate testing with other teams and track documentation for assigned projects.
  • Support efforts to enhance the customer experience through consistent improvement.
  • Participate in planning and engineering of lab enhancements.
  • Integrate communication industry architectures and topologies into complete network configurations.
  • Evaluate new products and recommend improvements.
  • Assist in developing and documenting technical standards.
  • Work on projects involving CATV planning, configuration, and optimization.
  • Adhere to applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.
