POSITION TITLE: Cook
SUMMARY: Prepare food to provide nutrition and variety to the residents. Coordinate resident involvement in the kitchen and dining room.
REPORT TO: The Food Service Director
ESSENTIAL JOB: Follow the assistance plan in providing services to residents.
RESPONSIBLITIES:
1. Prepare food daily as outlined on the weekly menu plan.
2. Assist with menu planning; review and adjust menus with the food Service Director to accommodate foods in season, vendor sale prices, special events and holidays.
3. Alter or adapt recipes to accommodate special dietary needs of
Residents or to improve recipes. Recipes should be prepared with
little or no added sodium (salt).
4. Identify food and supplies needed for the next week's menus and
report to The Food Service Director.
5. Maintain a written inventory of dry goods, refrigerated and
frozen foods, non-food supplies, dishes and utensils.
6. Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery;
ensure proper storage of all delivered foods and ingredients. Supervise rotation of stored items. Date items upon delivery.
7. Maintain a clean, orderly and safe kitchen environment.
8. Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection
control.
9. Ensure compliance with regulations.
10. Coordinate and participate in serving and plating of food.
11. Monitor portion control to meet residents' requests and minimize
waste.
12. Ensure attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving.
13. Notify Administrator of malfunction of equipment or appliances.
14. Train, supervise and assign work to Food Service Assistants
In the food service program.
15. Report concerns or observations about residents’ well-being to the Case manager or Administration.
16. Carry out other duties as assigned by The Food Service Director.
