Summary:

The Ironworker Superintendent is a leadership role responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of structural steel and ironwork projects. This role involves managing field operations, supervising ironworker crews, ensuring safety compliance, and ensuring the timely and quality completion of projects. The Ironworker Superintendent collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and other trades to ensure project objectives are met effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate ironworker crews on various job sites.
  • Ensure that structural steel and ironwork projects are executed per design specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Monitor and assess project progress and resolve any field-related issues promptly.
  • Directly manage and mentor foremen, lead hands, and ironworker teams.
  • Develop and maintain schedules for crew activities.
  • Facilitate training and skill development among team members.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and on-site inspections.
  • Investigate and address safety incidents or near-misses.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other trades to align project goals.
  • Communicate project requirements and updates effectively to all stakeholders.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Inspect and verify the quality of work to meet company and client standards.
  • Resolve discrepancies in design or implementation.
  • Ensure proper use of materials and adherence to design tolerances.
  • Coordinate the procurement and delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Manage labor allocation and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor project expenses and report to senior management.

Education and Experience:


  • Proven experience as an Ironworker Foreman or Superintendent.
  • Deep knowledge of structural steel and ironwork practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in project scheduling and progress tracking.
  • Familiarity with construction management software is a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED (required); trade school or technical certification (preferred).
  • Minimum 5–7 years of ironworking experience, including supervisory roles.
  • Certifications in safety training (e.g., OSHA 30, rigging, and crane signaling) are highly desirable.
