Facilities Specialist Needed for Premier Therapeutic Equestrian Center
The Shea Center is one of the premier therapeutic equestrian facilities in the United States. Located in Southern Orange County, we are in search of a part-time Facilities Specialist to help with minor repairs and day-to-day facility operations of an 8-acre facility that includes a barn, arenas, grounds, an office building, and setting up for special events. The successful candidate comes with at least 3-5 years of facilities experience or basic construction background. This position reports to the Manager of Buildings & Grounds. As The Shea Center is a nonprofit organization, there are often volunteers as well as clients and staff to interact with on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic safety requirements, tools and materials needed to maintain and repair the facility as needed. In addition, the ideal candidate will have good communication skills; ability to operate hand tools, small mechanical equipment, computer keyboard, and operate a pickup truck, a rental truck with lift gate; a small tractor, a golf cart and ability to assist with a forklift. Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds.
A background in equestrian facilities is highly desirable, but not necessary. A willingness to learn about the nature of The Shea Center’s mission is a must.
The successful candidate is steady and flexible in a fast-paced environment that is also a working service organization to persons with special needs. The successful candidate should have a high school diploma, is also background checked as part of the hiring process as well as required to have a valid California state driver’s license.
Responsibilities: Support the Buildings & Grounds department through following the regular duties:
1. Arena footing maintenance and repairs, including round pens & euro-walker
2. Landscaping and grounds maintenance – oversee landscaping company and tree trimming schedule
3. Work with manager and key staff members to coordinate large scale projects and support events.
4. Work with manager to complete project list objectives and update weekly.
5. Compliance and adherence to Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH, Intl.) standards.
6. Be aware and follow all Shea Center procedures and safety protocols, including COVID protocols.
