Our Research and Development team is seeking a part-time Apprentice Lab Technician to assist the Chemists. As a part-time Apprentice Lab Technician, reporting to the R&D Manager, you will carry out daily tasks in the Research and Development Group provided by the R&D Chemists. You may prepare color samples, making raw material blends, calcining pigment samples, running instrumental tests, and other tasks as given.
Note: This role is a part time day shift position Monday-Friday - 1 day per week during the academic year with more hours available during breaks. Pay is $18.50/hr.
Job Responsibilities:
- Be familiar with all appropriate safety procedures and carry out duties in a safe manner
- Prioritize and complete tasks from a list of requests from the R&D chemists
- Prepare paint or plastic plaques from pigment samples and measure the color using a color instrument
- Measure particle size distribution of pigment powder samples on the appropriate instrument
- Understand, follow, and become familiar with standard test methods
- Communicate test results to the appropriate people and record results in the databases
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Standing for long periods of time
Education/Experience
- Prior lab experience not required, but preferred
Required Skills
- Ability to carry out general laboratory work
- Basic math skills
- Ability to utilize measuring tools
