Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and organized Activity Assistant to join our team in providing engaging and enriching activities for residents in our long-term care facility. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with seniors and a strong understanding of their unique needs, including those related to dementia care. This role is essential in enhancing the quality of life for our residents through meaningful interactions and well-planned events.
Duties
- Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational and therapeutic activities for residents.
- Facilitate group activities that promote social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and physical engagement.
- Provide support to residents during activities, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to tailor activities to meet the specific needs of residents, particularly those with dementia or other cognitive impairments.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and feedback on activities.
- Help manage schedules for daily activities, ensuring that all events are well-coordinated and communicated effectively.
- Engage with families to encourage participation in events and provide updates on resident involvement.
- Contribute to a positive atmosphere by fostering relationships with residents, staff, and families.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in senior care settings such as assisted living, nursing homes, or home community care is preferred.
- Knowledge of dementia care practices and aging issues counseling is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in schedule management and event planning to ensure smooth execution of activities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with seniors.
- A compassionate demeanor with a genuine interest in caregiving and enhancing the lives of older adults.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
