Job Title: GIS Data Entry Technician
Type: W2 position with Full Benefits
Location: Remote, with travel to client offices across the U.S.
Reports to: Client’s Task Manager
Contract Duration: 12 months (Full-Time)
Job Overview:
The GIS Data Entry Technician will support the Client by managing the database's data entry and validation processes. The technician will be responsible for converting, inputting, and maintaining environmental data, ensuring accuracy and consistency with the Client’s standards. This role includes working closely with the Client’s task managers and specialists to improve the data quality used in decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Entry and Conversion: Translate digital and paper records into the database, ensuring all data is entered accurately. Utilize high-resolution scanning, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), or manual transcription methods to convert paper records to digital format.
- Data Validation: Conduct quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) reviews of environmental data entered the system, verifying the accuracy of approximately 130,000 feature records and 60,000 site records.
- Collaboration with Task Managers: Coordinate with task managers and specialists from district and field offices to ensure that data is entered and validated in line with BLM’s guidelines and requirements.
- Geographic Information System (GIS) Integration: Use GIS platforms to verify the geographical accuracy of data and assist in generating digital map products for environmental site tracking and analysis.
- Ongoing Data Management: Regularly input, update, and maintain the database for approximately 41,000 sites and 70,000 features, while supporting efforts to re-evaluate and update approximately 50,000 features nationwide.
- Reporting and Progress Updates: Participate in weekly progress calls and provide monthly written progress reports detailing data management activities, challenges, and recommendations for data improvements. Submit a final report after the project.
- Compliance: Ensure all data entry and management processes adhere to the Client’s best management practices for environmental data, maintaining compliance with federal standards and ensuring data integrity and security.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geography, information management, or a related field.
- Experience with data entry and management in a technical or environmental capacity.
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and environmental data platforms
- Previous experience working at Federal Agencies is a Plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in data entry systems, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) for data validation and mapping.
- Knowledge of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) tools and high-resolution scanning processes for converting paper records to digital format.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage large data sets.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work remotely and independently.
- Problem-solving skills to handle data discrepancies and ensure quality control.
Travel Requirements:
- Technicians may be required to travel up to six times per year for on-site collaboration with BLM personnel. Each trip will typically last five working days or less.
Work Location:
- Remote work is authorized;
Security Requirements:
- A background check will be conducted by the Federal Agency. No security clearance is required.
Travel:
- Travel to Clients’ sites will be required (up to 6 times).
