POSITION SUMMARY: We are looking for an experienced dance instructor responsible for choreography and teaching during summer dance camps and/or a 12-week fall/winter/spring dance program with an end-of-program performance while fostering the enjoyment and celebration of dance and movement.
- Provide a fun, positive and safe experience for all participants.
- Create an all-inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Use teaching tools, props and music to engage and interact with students.
- Teach progressive lessons and provide opportunities to demonstrate learned skills.
- Choreograph a 2-minute dance routine to be performed at the end of program dance performance and celebration.
- Encourage a lifetime participation in movement and physical activity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the dance program coordinator to develop program objectives and goals for each program session.
- As needed, create a written lesson plan for a 12-week program and/or summer dance camp that is age-appropriate and progressive within a class structure.
- Provide supervision of the participants in line with the YMCA program standards and guidelines (i.e., ratio, attendance).
- Be able to modify lesson plans and instruction to meet participants' needs.
- Provide exceptional customer service to program participants through prompt response times and attentive assistance with inquiries or concerns.
- Create an environment that is encouraging to all participants regardless of skill level.
- Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action for emergency situations.
- Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions, and special events.
- Record accurate attendance for all classes.
- Ensure the cleanliness of program space before, during, and after all activities.

- The ability to conduct programs and actives relating to fitness. Must be able to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, can occasionally reach high volumes.
- Aerobic exercise programs should meet the following components; warm up, cardiovascular conditioning, cool down, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility
- The employee must be able to interact with members, staff, volunteers, and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied individuals.
- Any other duties as assigned
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching dance in a structured setting.
- Able to work well with individuals of all ages.
- Knowledge of youth development stages.
- Certifications for CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogen Training, or willingness to obtain before start date.
- Abuse Prevention and Mandatory Reporting training required within 90 days of hire
- Bilingual skills preferred (with a $0.50 increase in hourly rate!)
- Possess excellent verbal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Must have excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Preferred 1 year of customer service
