California Western Railroad (CWR)/ Skunk Train is Class III common carrier freight and passenger railroad that was founded in 1885, and operates 40 miles between Fort Bragg and Willits, in MendocinoCounty, California.
We are seeking a Railbike Manager to oversee the daily railbike operations and to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, policies, standards, and procedures. This successful candidate will supervise daily operations,monitor quality and standards, and exceed guest expectations.
The successful candidate should possess a keen eye for attention to detail with an outgoing personality and the ability to interact well with guests and the CWR/Skunk Train team. This hands-on position will have theideal candidate working in an office environment one moment, on the sales floor the next or on the road guiding our guests on an adventure.
Role and Responsibilities
- Supervise all railbike operations, maintenance, and bike builds.
- Staff accordingly to suit the given schedule.
- Work collaboratively with other CWR/Skunk Train departments.
- Interacting with guests.
- Operate the retail outlet in the railbike barn and or depot locations.
- Providing a safe experience for staff and guests.
- Hiring of railbike staff.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and practices.
- Work on product/experience development.
- Selling merchandise and tickets.
- Confirming reservations, answering phones.
- Provide information and offer additional services to guests to enhance their visit to our area.
- Fully understand and support Skunk Train’s mission statement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Ability to think on your feet.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have earned a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be able to clearly and effectively read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English, in person and using electronic devices.
- Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
- Must have the ability to see and interpret hand signals from near and far; distinguish among red, blue, green, yellow and white colors; visually judge the speed and distance of moving objects; see atnight; hear, and, with training, distinguish auditory signals. Hearing & Vision tests per 49 CFR part240.121 and 242.117.
- Must be able to work in extreme all-weather conditions and safety-sensitive work environments.
Preferred Skills
- Bike repair skills.
- Knowledge of computers and the ability to navigate the web (using our web-based reservation system).
- Knowledge of the Microsoft suite.
- Familiarity and compliance with FRA rules (we will train for no prior experience).
- Basic mechanical experience preferred.
Additional Notes
Regularly scheduled shifts may last up to 12 hours. Work weeks can be up to 6 days.
