The Department of Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a post-doctoral scholar in Criminal Justice. This two-year position begins on August 1, 2025 and ends on June 30, 2027, at an annual salary of $55,000.
This position will be assigned exclusively to research projects related “Chattanooga United to Reduce Violence” (CURV), a partnership between the Criminal Justice program City of Chattanooga funded by Bureau of Justice Assistance Grant Award 15PBJA-24-GG-03112-CVIP (Office of Justice Programs Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative Site-Based). This project is supported through the Violence Reduction Initiative (VRI), a research center housed within the Criminal Justice Program. No teaching duties are assigned to this position.
In accordance with the goals expressed in this award, this partnership will seek to prevent and reduce violent crime in Chattanooga neighborhoods by supporting comprehensive, evidence-based community-based violence intervention and prevention programs. Specifically, the award will fund implementation of structured, supervised activities within neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by youth violence, wrap-around services for youth and their families, increased trauma-informed mental health support, creation of meaningful economic opportunities, and deployment of violence interrupters.
