Assistant General Manager (AGM)

The Smoke Shop BBQ Company, 4x winner of “Boston Best BBQ” by Boston Magazine, with locations across the Boston area, is seeking a Restaurant Assistant General Manager.

Assistant General Managers at the Smoke Shop BBQ are responsible for ensuring every guest experience is memorable by creating a culture that prioritizes hospitality and great BBQ. The Assistant General Manager assists the General Manager overseeing all aspects of front of house operation including managing staff, budgets, training, employee development, and guest interactions.

Core Leadership Responsibilities:

· Oversee guest experiences from start to finish, ensuring staff is serving food and drink in a manner that enthusiastically represents The Smoke Shop mission and values  

· Manage all aspects of the FOH operation including staff scheduling, training, correct setup and breakdown before/after service, cleanliness of restaurant, equipment, and furniture  

· Teach and train staff on the execution of the Smoke Shop steps of service 

· Seek to have meaningful connections with guests to create repeat business 

· Use point of sale system to correct errors and manage the inventory of food counts during service  

· Supervise and support all facets of Smoke Shop service, including in-person dining, takeout, delivery, patio service private events 

· Oversee staff conducting opening and closing restaurant duties, ensuring compliance with cleaning and sanitization standards  

· Ensure beverages, dry goods, and restaurant supplies are organized in an efficient manner 

· Communicate with front and back of house staff on guest experiences, both positive and negative; constantly working to improve the flow and efficiency of service 

· Manage situations as they arise working to recover guest experiences when necessary 

· Help staff maintain safe and organized work spaces, including service stations, prep stations and host stand 

· Manage the responsible serving of alcohol, ensuring servers are requesting ID and helping them make informed, smart decisions on when to serve guests 

· Have working knowledge of common allergens found in the Smoke Shop menu to assist guests with unique dining needs 

· Coordinate with kitchen staff to maintain smooth and pleasant dining experience for our guests  

Compensation: $60,000-$70,000 annually

Schedule: Full-Time, varying schedule, available on nights, weekends and holidays

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

• 5 years of prior restaurant service experience, 3 in management role

• Excellent hospitality and customer service skills

• Experience in high-volume restaurant

• Result-driven, with a proven ability to be a self-starter

• Excellent organizational & communication skills

• Knowledge of safe cleaning and sanitizing practices in a restaurant environment

• Positive attitude, sense of urgency, willingness to develop front of house staff

• Stand for the entirety of an 8-hour shift

• Lift and transport items in excess of 50 lbs

• Work in an environment of constant exposure to smoke

• Frequently kneel, bend over, lift items above head, work in small or cramped spaces

• Work in areas of extreme high or low temperatures

• Work quickly and safely in stressful circumstances

• TIPs certification, Serve Safe Food Handler Training
