The Social Bar Kitchen opened in July 2016, immediately changing New London's restaurant and bar scene by offering the largest selection of craft beers on draft in Southeastern Connecticut (50 to be exact!), a modern gastropub-style menu incorporating handcrafted burgers, entrees, apps and more with many options for vegetarians and vegans, and a fresh approach to craft cocktails - all in one of New London's most beautiful rooms.
The Social Bar & Kitchen is searching for a self-motivated and positive individual to join our team as our acting Front of House Manager. The candidate will be responsible for day to day logistics, managing staff, and ensuring the accuracy of all accommodations and hospitality efforts. The candidate should possess a keen eye for detail, excellent problem solving skills, and should be comfortable in high pressure situations. They should be a confident and comfortable leader, with strong organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Responsibilities:
- Provide the highest quality service to guests at all times
- Maintain integrity of service, visit tables while on floor to solicit feedback. Responsible for helping on the floor when necessary
- Create weekly schedules, accommodating employees, as well as decreasing labor costs by analyzing volume and other trends
- Act as a liaison between front and back of house as well as upper management
- Perform personnel functions (i.e. selection, training, hiring, evaluation, and termination)
- Create seat plans for events, seat guests as they arrive (adhering to ticket times) and facilitate the execution of all events (i.e. comedy shows, concerts, trivia, etc.)
- Maintain an accurate rental and party calendar, follow up on perspective leads, conduct site tours, and execute party agreements
- Ensure the restaurant is properly and fully booked to ensure maximum revenue without sacrificing service
- Ensure ambiance of the restaurant including music and lighting are in compliance with company standards
- Ensure proper knowledge of all company policies and procedures, rules and regulations
- Constantly evaluate front and back of house operations
- Ensure proper reporting of all revenue and costs
- Daily maintenance and updating of online menus; ensure personnel have up-to-date menu descriptions
- Responsible for updating Point of Sale to accurately reflect online menu
- Responsible for updated events on the website using correct graphics, promotional features, and targeted advertising
- Oversee the beverage/wine program; ensure all costs are accurate and in line with pricing guidelines
- Conduct weekly meetings with staff; attend pre-shifts and run them as necessary
- Promote teamwork within the restaurant, creating a positive work environment
- Handle any guest complaints, addressing each individually, personally and in a timely manner
Experience and Qualifications:
- 2 years experience in Restaurant Management
- Six years prior front of house experience in a high-volume establishment
- Experience in various capacities of restaurant industry (i.e. waiter, host, bartender, runner, etc.) strongly preferred
- Ability to work nights, holidays and weekends
Skills:
- Knowledge of food and beverage as well as accounting, administration, and cost control
- Effective style of management, promoting a team atmosphere and inspiring staff to achieve their potential
- Understanding of food handling and sanitation requirements of the Department of Health
- Ability to read and understand work related literature
- Experience in advertising weekly food, beverage, event and entertainment promotions preferred
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite preferred
- Proficient in the back end of Point of Sale systems (Square, Lightspeed, Revel, Toast, etc.)
- Proficient in website maintenance (basic HTML coding preferred but not required)
- A proven track record of guest satisfaction
