What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Teacher/Building Substitute position at The Southport School?
The Southport School (TSS) is an independent day school in Southport, Connecticut. The Southport School is dedicated to creating an environment for students in grades 2nd through 8th grade with language-based learning differences, like dyslexia, and ADHD, that recognizes individual strengths, promotes independent thinking, develops self-esteem and self-advocacy, and supports a successful transition for continued academic achievement.
The Southport School is currently accepting applications for an Associate Teacher/Building Substitute position for the REMAINDER of the 2024-2025 school year. Many faculty members begin their careers at TSS as Associate Teachers working and learning alongside experienced TSS faculty. This will be a 1099 position.
The Associate Teacher/Building Substitute role includes, but is not limited to:
*Assisting in co-curricular programs such as PE, activities, and duties as assigned*Assisting with planning and providing individualized instruction in
various subjects as designated by the lead teacher
*Attending training workshops, faculty in-service, and staff meetings
*Substituting as needed
*Assuming the role of a teacher should there be a leave of absence
The ideal candidate holds certification in Special Education, Elementary Education, PE or a specific content area. In addition, the candidate must be a good collaborator and creative educator who can engage students using
hands-on projects and curriculum and can embrace the strengths, talents, and potential of students with language-based learning differences and attention issues.
