Lower School Spanish Teacher - One Year Leave Replacement
Full-Time Position to begin August 2025
The Spence School seeks a full-time elementary Spanish teacher for a one-year leave replacement. The selected candidate will implement the established Grade 3 and Grade 4 Spanish curricula while having the flexibility to design engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons.
Spanish is taught throughout the Lower School, beginning in Kindergarten. Our K-4 Spanish program lays a strong foundation in listening and speaking through immersive experiences that reflect the communication styles, daily practices, and diverse cultures of Latin America, Spain, and Latino communities. Students participate in rich language-learning activities, including stories, collaborative games, read-aloud, songs, art-integrated projects, and skill-building tasks carefully chosen and developed by the Spanish teachers. The Lower School Spanish Teacher will join a team of three in a highly collaborative department.
Responsibilities
- Teach Spanish in Grades 3 and 4 in full and half-group settings.
- Develop immersive Spanish lessons that foster novice/beginner listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Collaborate with the Spanish Team in all areas of Spanish programming, including, Lower School Community Gatherings, field trips, coverage, and shared duties.
- Communicate with homeroom teachers and parents on behalf of students
- Work with the Spanish Associate Teacher to develop differentiated instruction tailored to the needs of heritage speakers.
- Write student reports.
- Collaborate with the Lower School Spanish Team, Administration, and faculty to ensure the well-being, safety, community values, strong academic culture, and a vibrant school environment.
- Attend all scheduled Lower School faculty meetings and Modern and Classical Languages Department meetings.
- Participate in on-site professional development sessions designed for Lower School faculty.
- Fulfill other Lower School assigned duties and responsibilities.

- Possesses a master’s degree or equivalent experience
- Has sustained experience teaching Elementary Spanish. Native or native-like proficiency in Spanish.
