Overview

The Spence School is seeking a part-time leave replacement in Middle and Upper School Visual Arts. This position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team of multidisciplinary artists who guide students through a curriculum grounded in artistic technique and experimentation. The ideal candidate is a practicing artist and lifelong learner with a collaborative spirit and a passion for teaching students how artmaking can be a transformative experience for themselves and their community. Responsibilities

• Teach one general studio art class (Grade 7), one ceramics class (Grade 8), and painting and drawing classes (Grades 9 and 10).
• Share in the responsibilities for maintaining the ceramics studio.
• Participate in department-wide initiatives addressing equity, pedagogy, and curriculum.
• Cultivate and maintain a classroom culture of openness, mutual respect, kindness, and inquiry.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Enjoys working with middle and upper school students and participating in school life.
• Has experience teaching a range of media, with a focus on ceramics and painting and drawing.
• Approaches work with optimism, energy, kindness, and a sense of humor.
• Demonstrates cultural competency and actively engages with and learns from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• Values collaboration as essential for professional growth and enjoys working as part of a team.
• Significant experience teaching visual arts to middle and upper school students.
• Has a master's degree or equivalent professional experience.
