What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Scheduler position at The Spine Hospital of Louisiana?
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Surgery Scheduler to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. In this role, you will be responsible for scheduling surgeries and ensuring all necessary arrangements are made for the patient and surgical team. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth and efficient surgical schedule. Your duties will include:
- Schedule all surgical procedures, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.
- Possess experience and working knowledge of medical surgical coding, particularly for spine procedures, including ICD-10, and CPT coding.
- Collect and verify all clinical and coding information required for surgical scheduling.
- Coordinate and manage the schedules of multiple physicians, ensuring efficient use of operating rooms and resources.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, clinical staff, admissions, billing, management, and peers to facilitate smooth scheduling operations.
- Demonstrates a consistently high degree of accuracy in accomplishments of daily activities.
- Possesses knowledge of scheduling procedures according to SHOLA Policies.
- Exhibits understanding of the various time requirements and resources for different procedures.
- Answers the phone professionally and courteously.
- Notify the Surgical Services Director of any unusual cases or extenuating circumstances.
- Notify the Surgical Services Director and appropriate areas of any changes in the surgery schedule for the current and the next day.
- Orientation of new scheduling clerks.

Requirements:Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: 1-3 years of experience in medical scheduling.
Licenses/Certificates: None required.
Special Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and medical scheduling software. Meditech/Meditech Expanse is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for long periods.
