Overview
The Squires Group is seeking a Project Financial Analyst to support a major utility company in the Washington DC metro area. This long-term opportunity is ideal for a professional with expertise in project financial processes, budgeting, and financial governance within a fast-paced IT environment. Reporting to the Senior Project Financial Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in transitioning and maturing financial practices to align with a Plan, Build, Run operating model, specifically focusing on the "Build" phase.
This role is 100% REMOTE, but candidates should have the flexibility to travel as needed for the role. Per our client contract, candidates must be US Citizens or Green Card Holders.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transform utilities businesses by leveraging technology for accelerated value delivery.
- Develop and enhance scalable financial tracking and reporting processes at the project and portfolio levels.
- Manage monthly financial deliverables, ensuring accurate forecasting, budgeting, and cost management for IT initiatives.
- Ensure proper allocation of capital expenditures (CapEx) versus operating expenditures (OpEx) by applying financial governance best practices.
- Oversee financial reporting activities, including managing work orders, tracking worksheets, labor/overhead expense reporting, and preparing accruals/UVL processing.
- Partner with portfolio delivery managers to provide comprehensive project and portfolio financial insights.
- Create ad hoc and complex reports for leadership, detailing budgets, cost analysis, and forecasting recommendations.
- Identify and implement process improvements, leveraging tools like Power BI, Excel, and SharePoint for efficiency gains.
- Present project and financial updates to executives and technical staff, tailoring content to varying levels of audience expertise.
- Drive accountability and success across multi-vendor and mixed-resource environments.
Qualifications
- Passion for driving organizational transformation and delivering measurable financial outcomes.
- 3–5 years of experience in financial budgeting, forecasting, accruals processing, and actual cost tracking in IT or related domains.
- Proficiency with financial systems like PeopleSoft and JD Edwards (JDE).
- Advanced Excel skills (formulas and functions) and familiarity with SharePoint and Power BI; experience with utilities preferred.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across all organizational levels.
- Ability to thrive in a team-focused environment that promotes continuous learning and professional growth.
- Relevant certifications in project management are a plus.
- W2 Hourly rate: $63 - $88. Rate is based on experience, qualifications, location, and certifications, and is subject to change at any time.
