We are looking for a skilled, safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator who is also willing to perform manual labor in support of our environmental restoration projects. In this role, you will operate heavy machinery such as bulldozers, excavators, skid steer loaders, and other equipment, while also assisting with physical tasks such as planting, hauling materials, and erosion control blanket installation. This position requires both technical expertise and the ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor settings. Please note: Travel is required, and occasionally staying out of town for multiple nights during the workweek will be necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, skid steer loaders, and other machinery for site preparation, grading, and erosion control.
- Assist in the restoration and rehabilitation of natural environments, including wetlands, forests, streams, and other natural habitats.
- Perform physical labor tasks, including digging, hauling materials, planting, and moving debris.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment while adhering to safety guidelines and protocols.
- Perform routine maintenance on machinery and report any malfunctions or repairs needed.
- Collaborate with the restoration team and supervisors to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Transport and manage materials like erosion control blankets, stakes, and other restoration materials.
- Follow environmental and safety protocols to protect both the site and the crew.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to environmental restoration efforts.
- Travel to various job sites as required, sometimes staying overnight for multiple days during the workweek.
Qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in construction, land reclamation, or environmental restoration.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a one-ton pickup truck used for hauling material and small equipment.
- Ability to operate a variety of machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, and skid steer loaders.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols and regulations for heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, digging, hauling materials, and working in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
- Team-oriented, self-motivated, and a good communicator.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug test as required.
- Willingness to travel and occasional overnight stays for multiple days during the workweek.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
