The State Group is seeking a Payroll Manager for a $1B, two-three-year project located on a construction job site in Stanton, Tennessee. This opportunity will provide immediate once-in-a-lifetime career learning and growth, as well as future promotional opportunities within The State Group.
The Payroll Manager manages the union payroll function for 2,500 primarily union employees. This position directly supervises Payroll Coordinators and reports to the Finance Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of weekly payroll transactions, including compensation, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Reconcile payroll with the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of updates and changes related to employee information as well as corporate and governmental requirements and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws as well as best practices and collective bargaining agreements of various unions.
- Handle the timely and accurate filing of all payroll-related tax returns.
- Maintain and provide accurate records and documentation for internal and external audits and reports.
WHAT YOU NEED TO JOIN OUR TEAM
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 5 years of union payroll processing experience for a workforce of 1,500 employees, including supervisory experience.
- In-depth understanding of financial and regulatory compensation practices related to payroll processing.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel. Proficient with Excel workbooks, generating reports, and data analysis.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally while maintaining confidentiality.
- Manage multiple and changing priorities with strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and supervise others in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in construction or manufacturing union environments and with growing organizations preferred.
