The Division serves thousands of Floridians through its plethora of programs and services. With District and Satellite Offices located throughout the state, as well as the Career, Technology and Training Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired, and the Braille and Talking Books Library, the Division of Blind Services has become a national model in education, employment and other services that foster independence for blind and visually impaired Floridians.

Job Description:
This is a part time reader/driver position within the Division of Blind Services. The goal of the Division of Blind Services is to assist individuals with visual impairments in achieving or maintaining an employment outcome that is consistent with his/her unique strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests, and informed choices. The incumbent will provide reading and transportation services for the Career, Technology, & Training Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired (CTTC) staff members with visual impairments.



Examples of Work:

  • Acts as a reader for the Career, Technology, & Training Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired (CTTC) staff members.
  • Provides transportation to scheduled appointments.
  • Reads incoming mail and clears in-boxes, ensuring that all pertinent information is reviewed.
  • Faxes, scans, and copies.
  • Assists with obtaining signatures from Division of Blind Services clients.
  • Operates the state vehicle and follows all guidelines in relation to the use of the state vehicle.
  • Maintains confidentiality standards required by all State Employees.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid Florida Driver's License and a clear driving record.
  • Inputs work hours into the People First System.
  • All other duties required/requested to assist Center staff with work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • This position requires a valid Florida Class E Driver License with an acceptable driving record in accordance with FDOE and DBS State Vehicle Policies and Procedures. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
    • Three (3) or more moving violations in the past 2 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation.
    • Any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past 2 years.
    • A suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 2 years; and/or
    • A suspension or revocation for refusal to take a field sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 3-4 years.
    • Your driving record will be reviewed, and the status of your driver license confirmed.
  • Ability to maintain a clear driving history.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
