POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of Bureau Chief, this position is responsible for making a decision based on accurate information and providing quality assurance and verification for a recommended decision related to a firearm transaction. This position is responsible for providing quality service and information to internal and external customers with regards to these decisions. This position provides training and guidance to other members in the Firearm Eligibility Bureau. This position is responsible for applying federal and state disqualifiers as well as maintaining, organizing, and prioritizing the section’s workflow. This position must meet and maintain National Crime Information Center/Florida Crime Information Center certification as required and is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of data housed within the department databases.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Serving as subject matter expect related to computerized criminal history and criminal justice information systems to include comprehension and interpretation of interface control documents, operation guides, code manuals and database relationships;
- Providing on-going quality assurance to identify potential problems and recommending alternative resolutions related to the use of systems;
- Coordinating maintenance and development of operational systems in conjunction with Information Technology Services to ensure organizational goals and statutory requirements are met;
- Participating in requirements gathering and coordinating the communication for computerized criminal history and criminal justice information systems necessary to facilitate required functions;
- Acting as system testing expert for implemented changes, upgrades and new functionality;
- Troubleshooting, developing a mechanism to compile reported problems, and if possible, resolving system issues with appropriate technology staff;
- Researching and developing training curriculum for FDLE services, programs, and applications;
- Researching, analyzing, developing, and delivering instructional methods and techniques to support the training of departmental activities to the criminal justice community, firearm dealers, firearm purchase program members and the general public;
- Coordinating research involving the development of new methods and techniques; and
- Conducting lectures and/or informative presentations regarding criminal justice information programs related to the firearm purchase background check process.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication;
- Knowledge of state and federal firearm disqualifiers;
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system;
- Knowledge of the methods of data collection;
- Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data;
- Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
- Ability to operate computers and other office equipment;
- Ability to monitor criminal justice information activities;
- Ability to work independently by planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments; and
- Ability to communicate effectively.

BACKGROUND:
FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
