Your Specific Responsibilities:


The Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County (FDOH-SJC) is part of a statewide public health system.

This is an independent position that works with FDOH-SJC employees, community partners and community members. While this position works with all aspects of health education, the position may have a focus within FDOH-SJC as well.


This position works on Florida Health’s initiatives and deliverables for FDOH-SJC. This includes but is not limited to working on:

  • Collaborating with public and private entities
  • Bringing together state agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, county and municipal departments and community members
  • Engaging FDOH-SJC staff

This position:

  • Identifies health needs for St Johns County and develops ways to address those needs
  • Develops new outreach initiatives and ways to address those initiatives
  • Tracks community outreach events and work with Health Education staff and supervisor to determine appropriate events to participate in
  • Attends, participates in and manages outreach/community events
  • Monitors FDOH initiatives and events for potential implementation at FDOH-SJC

This position works with FDOH-SJC Health Education staff to develop and implement strategies to:

  • Promote activities with community partners to promote healthy communities
  • Present trainings/education to the community and staff
  • Distribute outreach material for all media types
  • Conduct community-level health promotion events
  • Participate in the development and implementation of FDOH-SJC’s Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan
  • Enhance community health improvement initiatives
  • Address objectives from FDOH-SJC agency plans

Perform other related duties as required.


Ensures the integrity/confidentiality of all data sets in programs, complies with information and security protocols and procedures, maintains security and privacy of client information, discloses or releases confidential information only after proper authorization has been obtained and maintains information that is exempt from public record disclosure in a confidential manner.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of health education
  • Knowledge of program development
  • Knowledge of the methods for data collecting and analyzing
  • Skill with utilizing computers, Microsoft products or other database programs, and basic software applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement community events
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): valid drivers’ license.


Other job-related requirements for this position:

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.


Working hours: (A) Daily from 8:00 to 5:00 (B) Total hours in workweek 40 (C) Explain any variation in work (split shift, rotation, etc.) This position is required to work weekends and/or after work hours for outreach events
