Human Services Program Supervisor II - SES


Your Specific Responsibilities:

Responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. Other responsibilities of an information and key custodian as described in the Department of Health’s Information Security Policies, Protocols and Procedures as outlined in Protocol; Security 3(V), Pinellas County Health Department’s Supplemental Information Security Policy 3 and Protocol; Security 6(V).


The position performs supervisory duties and directs the activities of a team in the Healthy Families Pinellas program under the direction of the program’s Health Services Manager. This position is responsible for the supervision of a team at the Largo Center. Leads team by emphasizing agency values. Promotes the Florida Department of Health and Agency mission by participating in agency activities.


Ensures Healthy Families guidelines for home visiting and risk appropriate care are followed. Ensures that Family Goals, Home Visits, Immunizations, CCIs, HFPIs, Edinburgh Depression Screens and Developmental Assessments are provided and/or monitored according to program standards. Completes intakes/engagment visits, and the initial HVSP. Assists the home visitors determine pacing and prioritzing in addressing identifiied risk factrors and build protective capacities. Arranges and provides pre-service training, orientation, and shadowing experience for new employees. Ensures training plans are completed within accredidation guidelines. Provides training to improve care planning including developing FGs, case management skills, and providing education using GGK and the Gold the Within, FSU and other curriculum tools.


Supervises assigned staff including direct service workers, providing case consultation during regularly scheduled weekly supervision or unscheduled meetings and crisis situations. Provides reflective, clinical and administrative supervision and skill building. Documents supervision in accordance with HFA standards and guidelines. Teaches reflective strategies, inlcuding mindful self regulation to the direct service staff for implementation with program participants. Shadows staff in the field to provide constructive guidance and feedback. Reviews and addresses employee satisfaction. Ensures that all aspects of documentation are being met. Responsible for ensuring the integrity of the EHR in HMS and the integrity of the data in the HFF tracking system. Responsible for ensuring the team meets funder defined performance measures and objectives. Completes monthly and quarterly reports as assigned.


Schedules and directs workload flow across team. Implements monthly team meetings to share information, review procedures, coordinate workflow, provide and receive input from staff. Ensures that stated objectives for the program are met quarterly and annually. Maintains funder, collaborative agency, community, and cross-divisional relationships. Meets on routine basis and as scheduled with other supervisors and program managers to coordinate across program areas.


Facilitates and ensures Quality Improvement Activities are conducted. Produces quality work products. Maintains standards and applicable regulations for personnel, medical records management, and funder requirements.


Attends training to promote professional and personal growth. Promotes appropriate training and educational activities to enhance the ability of staff to perform.


Meets on regularly basis with Health Services Program Manager to identify specific community needs, problems and opportunities in providing services, review quality improvement activities, personnel issues, and results of operational plan activities. Identifies team needs and provides input into the overall operation of the program.


Other related duties including information or key custodian. Other duties as assigned. Provides back up coverage for Program Manager and other supervisors when needed including flex schedules, annual and sick leave.


Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Knowledge of basic computer software and ability to enter data in computer.
  • Experienced in working with or providing services to children and families.
  • Possess an ability to establish trusting relationships.
  • Possess acceptance of individual differences.
  • Experienced in and willing to work with the culturally diverse populations that are present among the target population for HF Pinellas.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development.
  • Possess an ability to establish trusting relationships
  • Knowledge of promotion of positive parent-child interactions
  • Experience with family services that embrace the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision
  • knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse and neglect
  • Willingness to engage in building reflective practice

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social services field or a minimum of four years experience working for a Helathy Families America accredidated program
  • 3-5 years minimally working with children/and or families
  • Knowledge of infant and child development.
  • 1 1/2 years experience in home visitation program
  • Experience working in culturally diverse communities/families
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, e-mail, and internet
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Must have Driver’s license and daily reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a social services field
  • Experience with supervising/solid understanding of supervising
  • Experience in Reflective practice
  • Infant Mental Health Endorsement
  • Bi-lingual reading and writing both English & spanish fluently
