POSITION DESCRIPTION: Prepares maps, sketches, and legal descriptions to convey right of way, easements and agreements. Collects existing information such as, field survey data, right of way maps, plats, title and recorded documents. Assists Department staff with data & existing information dissemination such as, field survey data, right of way maps, plats, title, and recorded documents. Reviews title information to plot the location of parent tracts and easements. Analyzes and calculates the location of the baselines and rights or way. Ensures maps, sketches, and descriptions meet the principles, practices, laws and regulations governing Surveying & Mapping. Communicates with supervisor, peers, and consultants to resolve technical issues and discrepancies.
Utilizes Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) applications to create maps and sketches. Uses related CADD applications to perform various calculations and analysis of data. Adheres to the Department’s standards, guidelines, and procedures for creating maps and sketches.
Processes field data collected by survey crews; evaluates and assures data is complete, accurate, and meets quality standards and project scope. Produces complete databases containing the survey data and CADD files for use in design and mapping purposes. Tracks the filing, storage, and delivery of data and files.
Reviews consultant submittals for conformity to the Department’s standards, guidelines, procedures, and the scope of services.
Assists in training and development of other Department staff with CADD and Surveying & Mapping activities. Assists supervisor with monitoring schedules.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of advanced surveying mathematics; advanced mathematical principles; principles, laws, and regulations governing surveying and mapping; Department policies, handbooks, and procedures; the principles, laws, and regulations governing title and real estate transactions; standard research methods and resources. Skill with personal computers and related applications; use CADD applications; oral and written communication. Ability to prepare and maintain reports, records, files, and correspondence; plan, organize, coordinate, and perform multiple assignments; read legal descriptions, maps, plats, and plans. Skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or its equivalent and three years’ experience in a Surveying and/or Mapping production environment.
