About the Position: Activity Specialist II
This position will be located at our Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex, in Shawnee County.

Compensation: $20.13/ Hr. to $23.31/ Hr. ($41,870.40 to $48,484.80)
- Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications.

Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary: This position directs and coordinates with all divisions of KJCC to plan, develop and coordinate recreation programs, life & leisure time activities, weekend activities, seasonal recreational events, and routine weekly activities, and contributes to the facility behavior management system through coordination and facilitation of various incentive programs for all youth housed at KJCC. Activities include sports, drama and music, social activities, arts and crafts, DR-free movie, and many others. This position manages the canteen program for youth juvenile offenders and regularly communicates with the contracted canteen vendor to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of orders, and to request updates to the canteen menu. The ASII serves as the recreation department head and is the assigned supervisor for 5 Activity Specialist l’s, assisting in carrying out activity programs by assigning duties, scheduling work, evaluating performance, recommending employment actions, and ensuring the department's compliance with all FLSA and EEO regulations Additionally, the recreation director provides information to share in the Senior Management Meeting, serves as liaison to other KJCC Divisions, and through personal visits and attending various department meetings, ensures a positive working team relationship.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

- Supervise Activity Therapy Specialists and assist in carrying out activity programs by assigning duties, scheduling work, evaluating performance, recommending employment actions, and ensuring the department's compliance with FLSA and EEO regulations.
- Provides information to share in the Senior Management Meeting, serves as liaison to other KJCC Divisions, and through personal visits and attending various department meetings, ensures a positive working team relationship.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Five years of experience in recreation, athletics, music, or art. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment. Possess High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of recreation leisure programs; knowledge of recreation equipment and safe use; ability to organize large groups; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to assign the work of others.
Knowledge of safe sport and recreation practices and knowledge of institutional safety and security procedures.
Ability to deal effectively with individuals under restraint. Knowledge of procedures and practices of supervising juvenile offenders confined to a juvenile correctional facility.
Ability to stand for long periods of time, respond quickly to emergencies, and use force to subdue violent juvenile offenders
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must pass a criminal history records check, DCF Child Abuse and Neglect check, PREA check, TB skin test, UA Drug Test.
