Position Summary & Responsibilities: The position exists to maintain and support the technical needs of the Child Nutrition and Wellness (CNW) team, which administers federal Child Nutrition Programs (CNP). This position is responsible for developing and modifying application software, identifying and documenting application requirements, and preparing system designs and detailed specifications from which application software is written. Functions include analysis, design, programming and maintenance of applications; design, development and maintenance of data sources; integration of CNW data and applications with other Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) systems; first line support of team members and application users; troubleshooting and resolving application issues; and supporting data inquiries as assigned. Applications and procedures adhere to standards and security procedures of the IT department and the agency. The tasks of this position directly support the agency's ability to track students' needs and performance, regulate education organizations' performance and allocate state and federal funds for child nutrition and wellness purposes.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Successful completion of 18 hours in computer science coursework or certification and one year of experience coding, testing and debugging application programs or two years of experience coding, testing, debugging and documenting application programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Skills and/or Qualifications:
- Completion of bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science or related area. Technical certification and one year of work experience in web application development may be substituted for the degree;
- Good oral and written communication skills;
- Working knowledge of the application development lifecycle and software development methodologies;
- Experience working in a team environment;
- Good troubleshooting skills; and
- Good organizational skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Two years of experience designing and developing web solutions to effectively deliver data and information to end users;
- Two years of experience programming web applications using Microsoft Dot Net technologies and Microsoft SQL Server;
- Experience with Microsoft Reporting Services; and
- Knowledge of KSDE applications.
