Position Summary & Responsibilities:
The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA) is seeking to fill an Assistant General Counsel position. The Assistant General Counsel serves under the direction of the General Counsel – providing legal advice, representation and services to the agency, its governing Board, Executive Director, management, staff, advisory Councils, Committees, and other sub-entities. This position is responsible for a wide range of areas, including, but not necessarily limited to:
Representing the Board in appellate review actions and prosecuting unauthorized practice cases in court.
- Providing legal advice to the Board in their decision-making capacity during administrative hearings.
•Providing legal advice and opinions to the Board, advisory Councils and staff.•Providing legal review of requests for open records and subpoenas to the agency.
- Assisting the Executive Director and General Counsel in legislative matters including drafting proposed legislation and presenting testimony before legislative committees.
- Drafting and reviewing regulations, policies and procedures with regard to form and legality.
- Responding to inquiries from licensees, stakeholders, other government officials and the public.
- Performing other work as assigned by the Board, General Counsel, and Executive Director.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited school of law and possess a current Kansas Law license.
Preferred Qualifications: Emphasis in professional licensing, health law, administrative law or related field of practice is preferred.
