Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary: Conducts statewide collision related training requested by both KHP and through KHP for local Kansas law enforcement agencies. Provides instruction and maintains training curriculum for KHP collision investigations and collision documentation equipment utilized by the Kansas Highway Patrol Critical Highway Accident Response Team. Review and refresh current collision instruction and training presentations. Operation of an agency vehicle is required to fulfill agency needs, including but not limited to, driving to Troop headquarters, Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy, and outside agencies.
Conducts statewide collision and collision reconstruction reviews. Maintain a case management database for documentation and progress of collision investigations. Checks incoming and outgoing collision reports for accuracy. Provides proper coding guidance and applicability with the Kansas Motor Vehicle Crash Reporting requirements both for Kansas and Federal Partners.
Creates and maintains training; reviews training material as needed, and corresponds in a timely manner with Troop locations concerning training and reviews conducted. Maintenance of complete and accurate fiscal records and accountability of all collision training and reviews.
Provides prompt, courteous, and efficient service to KHP personnel and with the public while conducting training, reviews, or fielding questions related to collision investigations and scene documentation equipment.
Maintains a current inventory of all equipment and keeps it in working order, replacing when necessary. Maintains assigned vehicles, keeping them in proper working order and clean condition. Utilizes comparative price checks when repairs are needed to minimize costs. Maintain work areas in a neat and orderly fashion. Personal appearance will be adhered too as prescribed by policy.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver’s License.

Necessary Special Requirements: Current certified law enforcement officer; or retired in the last five (5) years in good standing as a law enforcement officer.
Successful completion of an Intermediate and Advance Collision course. Successful completion of a Collision Reconstruction course. Accreditation with A.C.T.A.R. (Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction) is preferred. Forensic Mapping, Total Station, Crash Data Retrieval imaging knowledge, and UAS (Drone) certifications preferred.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and general public; communicate effectively with internal and external customers both orally and in writing. Able to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to see details up close and at a distance. Must be able to speak and conduct presentations to large group of attendees in either a classroom or auditorium setting while using microphone, audio and/or visual aids.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must submit to and pass a thorough background check including fingerprints. Ability to sit, walk, stand, stretch, twist, and reach out with body, arms, and legs; listen, comprehend, respond, speak clearly and concisely in writing, in person, and on the telephone; repeatedly bend, stoop, lift materials/equipment up to 30 lbs., move in confined areas, and perform repetitive motions with one or more extremity. Must have the ability to see details up close and at a distance.
