Compensation:
$64,937.60 to $75,150.40 /Annual ($31.22 to $36.13/Hourly)*

  • Offered salary will be determined by education, experience, or qualifications. Though this position is unclassified, the posted starting salary is equivalent to classified Pay Grade 35, steps 6 to 12. Please contact Recruitment Coordinator for further details.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position provides communications and program support to the Director of Operations and the Deputy Secretary of Facilities Management by researching and responding to reported concerns, as well as monitoring, developing, and coordinating programs in support of the statewide PREA Coordinator in support of the mission of the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Reviews resident class I and II disciplinary reports/appeals. Work includes reviewing the record of appeal, including the appellant's arguments and agency of jurisdiction's findings, and rendering an appropriate decision. Initiates appropriate contacts with counsel and others in the agency and presents requests for extensions for disciplinary hearings to Director of Operations. Assists hearing officers with incorporating risk management principles when requested. Develops and completes scheduled audits of facility disciplinary processes. Provides monthly reports noting disciplinary trends department wide to include sanction summaries.

Prepare, investigate, interpret, and complete data tracking mechanisms in support of the PREA Coordinator. Perform data searches, audit scheduling, completion of audit related materials as requested by the PREA Coordinator. Assist with training, communicating, and monitoring PREA related subjects and events. Assist with audits, participate in PCM conference calls, TIPR conference calls, and liaise with PCMs in support of the PREA Coordinator.

Assist FMS group as needed with communications to facilities. Ensure that sufficient information is gathered to provide timely responses to questions or concerns raised by the public regarding facility procedures and/or residents. Ensure all feedback is approved by Director of Operations prior to sending to other state agencies or the public.

Special projects and other related duties as assigned by the PREA Coordinator, the Director of Operations, or the Deputy Secretary of Facility Management.

Develops data reports to provide the information necessary to support and meet facility needs (data base/ crystal reports).

Serves as a back up for resident grievance appeals, property claims, and censor appeals. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, the behavioral sciences, or public administration and three years of experience in the field of corrections, including at least one year of supervisory and administrative/management experience. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency, see below for details.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the Kansas corrections system; knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to the Kansas corrections system.

Thorough working knowledge of PREA standards and policies.

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to analyze and interpret written material in daily work; ability to engage in strategic planning.

Ability to set goals and carry out plan; ability to work effectively and productively with external and internal customers and colleagues.

Ability to operate personal computer and software, including Access, Excel, Word and Outlook.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a criminal history records check.
