Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Disability Examiner Supervisor (K0240274) This department adjudicates disability cases for persons applying for KanCare benefits. Medical background is preferred: Medical records, terminology, or medical office experience or course work. Organization and time management skills are key. Attention to detail and accuracy are critical. Directly supervise the PMDT disability examiners and case developers. Provide leadership, guidance, and direction. Recruit, select, and hire staff according to civil service guidelines and personnel rules and regulations. Monitor staff performance, productivity, and quality of work. Provide feedback to staff based on data and observation. Assist staff in establishing and meeting professional goals. Answer questions from direct reports and provide resources to develop staff.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Maintain full working knowledge of each process in the unit for the purpose of performance oversight and process improvement. Monitor the unit’s workflow and coordinate with staff to implement new processes, policy, and procedures. Maintain timeliness standards according to federal regulations, identifying and implementing opportunities to maintain compliance. Develop PMDT reports to monitor performance. Conduct regular touch base meetings with staff. Ensure HIPAA compliance. Serve as a second point of contact for external inquiries and escalated consumer calls. Maintain professional partnerships with other state agencies and outside organizations. Serve as a back-up for the PMDT Fair Hearing appeals.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Licensing & Certification:
    • Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent, fully trained disability examiner with at least 5 years or experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Some post-high school education
    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
    • Proofreading, editing, attention to detail
    • Demonstrated analytical skills
    • Knowledge of Medicaid programs
    • Ability to manage competing priorities
    • Experience utilizing computer, imaging and eligibility determination system
