Kansas Neurological Institute

The Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) is an intermediate care facility offering support to approximately 120 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. KNI practices a person-centered philosophy to support our residents so they can have the quality of life they deserve by recognizing their individuality, honoring their choices, protecting and maintaining their health, helping to build and maintain their relationships with others, and making sure that they are included in every aspect of their lives; in their homes, in their jobs, and in the community.

KNI has 19 homes with direct support staff assisting with daily living activities in each home throughout four buildings and is located on a large campus, east of the VA hospital in Topeka. KNI is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.

About the Position:

This position participates in a team setting to ensure the facilities and grounds at KNI are conducive to the people who live at KNI having meaningful lives. They provide functional, healthy, safe, attractive, comfortable, and accessible environments for all people who live or work at KNI and all visitors to the KNI campus. They participate in the work of the carpentry, painting, flooring, electrical maintenance, and building trades shops.

Compensation/Other Information:

  • Hourly Pay: $19.56/hour

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades.
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vocational training in building trades.
  • Able to work overhead, in bent, stooped and cramped conditions, work in confined spaces, in elevations in excess of 10’ above the floor area, work in extreme heat and cold temperatures
  • Able to move and relocating materials that weigh in excess of 50 lb. several times per day unassisted by others.
  • Should be aware of and follow OSHA work practices including by not limited to forklift safety, confined space entry, electrical safety practices, lock out- tag out systems, ladder and scaffold safety.
  • Use of paints, chemicals and solvents in hand and spray applied equipment.
