Compensation:
- Annual Salary Range: $93,000 - $98,000 Per Year
- Hourly Pay Range: $44.71 - $47.12 Per Hour
- Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This position will remain posted until filled.
Location: Applicants must live in or around Riley County, Kansas or be willing to relocate to the assigned area.
- Meets with veterinarians, producers, market owners, and other stakeholders to address animal health concerns and challenges. Serves as a professional liaison between the agency and veterinarians, producers, livestock market operators, feedlots, licensees and the public
- Performs and/or supports Foreign Animal Disease (FAD) investigations for reportable diseases.
- Works closely with USDA Veterinary Services on state/federal cooperative agreements involving disease control and eradication programs, animal identification programs and other issues.
- Conducts epidemiology surveillance, surveillance testing and scientific analysis of animal health, disease outbreaks, regulation compliance, animal disease traceability and other regulated activities.
- Participates in planning and supporting state animal health and emergency response activities.
- Promotes animal disease traceability (ADT), upholds related regulations, and addresses compliance issues.
- Serves as a professional liaison between the agency and veterinarians, producers, producer associations; other state, federal and international agencies; and the general public.
- Performs administrative duties pertaining to state-federal cooperative disease control and eradication programs (i.e. brucellosis, tuberculosis, scrapie, avian influenza, pseudorabies, and equine infectious anemia).
- Delivers group presentations to represent the Division of animal health programs and activities and maintains a positive presence in the local agriculture community.
- Works closely with KDA Animal Health leadership on grant and special project management including grant development and oversight, cooperative agreement development and reporting, rules and regulation review process, etc.
- Assists the Animal Health Commissioner with all assigned duties to successfully promote the mission of the agency.
This position is based at the KDA headquarters. The candidate that is selected for this position will start each day from the KDA Headquarters, 1320 Research Park Drive, Manhattan, KS 66502.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduated from an accredited college of veterinary medicine.
- Licensed and USDA accredited to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Kansas.
- Knowledge of professional work in various disease control and eradication programs.
- Two years of veterinary practice experience; including large animal ambulatory service (education, training and/or related experience may be substituted).
- Work will involve activities in all weather conditions.
- Occasionally the employee must handle soiled, contaminated equipment and may be responding to diseases that are zoonotic in nature.
- Work duties require working with and around animals and livestock and will be subjected to the hazards associated with such activity.
- May experience extended periods of travel with occasional overnight stays.
- Knowledge of professional work associated with various disease control and eradication programs.
- Knowledge of Kansas Animal Health Statutes and Regulations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicle and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
