The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Division of Rehabilitative Services, has a full-time vacancy for a Corrections Counselor/Case Manager.
Summary:
Performs specialized social service duties within the Division of Community Corrections for the Northern NH Correctional Facility; follows established prescribed policies and procedures in the rehabilitation of inmates; provides counseling/case management either individual or in groups which may assist inmates in their transition into a community environment; does related work as required including case management, working in close and immediate contact with inmates on a daily basis while maintaining security.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in social work, psychology, criminology, vocational rehabilitation, education, guidance or in a behavioral science involving emphasis on counseling and human relations. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years' experience in the field of counseling, correctional administration, program development, parole or criminology. Work experience in law enforcement, prisons, or working with juvenile or adult offenders preferred. License/Certification: Certifications obtained after hire must be maintained for the duration of employment, as required by the agency.
Special Requirements: Successful completion of the Corrections Academy and continuing certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.
Responsibilities:
Participates as a member of the facility unit team that monitors inmates to ensure a safe and secure environment. Attends staff meeting and participates in developing strategies for managing inmate's behavior.
Models, reinforces, redirects and sets limits to behavior by using specified behavior management techniques; develops and implements individual goal attainment.
Conducts individualized and group orientation to inmates within the correctional system and provides programming to inmates associated with their identified risk factors.
Observes inmates and collaborates with other staff and community agencies to help develop services for offender needs.
Schedules inmates for specialized appointments, boards and activities within the prison system.
Coordinates with professional staff (psychiatrist, social worker and psychologist) in order to ensure treatment for those offenders needing specialized services.
Prepares reports, case summaries for appropriate classification and on-going treatment and rehabilitation of inmates.
Acts as liaison between the courts, parole and community corrections in order to facilitate inmate movement through the prison system.
Participates in agency training programs and obtains certifications required to administer risk assessments to inmates and facilitate inmate training programs.
Makes recommendations and helps develop aftercare plans upon the inmate's release into the community.
