EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, COMMISSION ON AGING

37.5 hours per week

The starting hourly pay for this position is $37.22 - $51.07

The State of New Hampshire, Commission on Aging has a full-time vacancy for an Executive Director.

Summary : To serve as the Executive Director for the State Commission on Aging and develop and support its policies and mission to improve the lives of older adults and their families / caregivers in New Hampshire.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and / or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education : Master's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with major study in public or business administration, healthcare, education, law, human services or one of the social sciences.

Experience : Seven years of experience in a professional management position involving executive duties, including fiscal management, strategic planning and board work.

Education : Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with major study in public or business administration, healthcare, education, law, human services or one of the social sciences.

Experience : Eight years of experience in a professional management position involving executive duties, including fiscal management, strategic planning and board work.

License / Certification : Driver’s license or access to transportation for statewide travel.

Special Requirements : Must be proficient in business administration technology programs including Microsoft Office as well as social media platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for business / program promotion.

Recommended Work Traits :

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of proposal and grant writing.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of advocacy for senior needs and issues, and development of a comprehensive system of services.
  • Ability to understand fiscal procedures and to develop budgets and provide fiscal administration.
  • Ability to think strategically and to develop and implement operating plans.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with state and federal agency heads as well as legislators and subordinate employees.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills including the ability to organize resources, establish priorities and manage multiple projects.
  • Must be able to effectively train commission members, partners and volunteers.
  • Must have the interpersonal skills to develop effective and constructive working relationships with senior citizens, service providers, human service agencies and the public.
  • Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.

Responsibilities :

Reviews and assists with the implementation of short and long-range strategic plans, including but not limited to, the DHHS State Plan on Aging, the DHHS Ten Year Mental Health Plan as well as other plans that affect older adults to achieve Commission goals. Develops education and advocacy programs by cultivating and leveraging relationships with state and national organizations that are on the forefront of policy research and advocacy.

Oversees daily operations and provides administrative support for the Commission to include development and review of budget, contracts, fiscal, legal and legislative items.

Provides administrative support to the commission in the development of a strategic plan while carrying out policies and initiatives in line with the plan. Ensures the operations are within budget parameters and adhere to all applicable rules and regulations as required by the State of New Hampshire, while carrying out policies.

Evaluates state and federal regulations to assess programmatic and operational impacts on the Commission’s work. Determines implementation priorities and timelines, including identifying needed modifications to planning, business procedures and work methods and updates members on recommendations.

Compiles metrics and researches data and materials related to the Commission's work; produces and presents reports and information at the direction of the Commission.

Researches potential funding opportunities and leads the writing, proofreading, editing, and on-time submission of grant proposals, letters of intent, and concept papers.

Serves as liaison to the Governor’s Office, NH General Court and as a spokesperson for the Commission on Aging in collaboration with the Chair; communicates with professionals public entities, key community organizations, and the general public.

Maintains the role of subject matter expert (SME) and serves as an information source for the state legislature on issues affecting older adults; attends legislative hearings and provides testimony as required. Keeps the Commission informed about relevant legislative, social, and community trends.

Promotes the commission’s mission, reviews all publicity, advocacy initiatives, and other communications; establishes and maintains good relationships with the media to ensure coverage of the commission’s activities and events and develops and updates information across the internet and social media channels.

Supports engagement and active participation by members of the commission by maintaining follow-up communications on progress and initiates and by orienting new members. Ensures that all meetings and events are fully accessible to members and participants with disabilities.
