The New Hampshire Veterans Home has a full-time, 1st shift vacancy for a Security Officer II.
Proposed Schedule Includes:
Saturday & Sunday: 8:00am - 8:00pm (additional $2.00/hour)
Monday & Tuesday: 8:00am - 4:00pm

Summary:
Provides security/safety coverage through enforcement of established policies and procedures, and patrol and inspection functions to protect the NH Veterans Home (NHVH) against fire, theft, safety hazards and vandalism. Develops and provides training and oversight to Security Officer I positions on the security software system and cameras. Assists with the development and presentation of safety programs for residents and staff at the NH Veterans Home.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Two years’ experience in law enforcement work as a certified police officer or accepted certification by Police Standards and Training Council, or as a security officer, a correctional officer, active military or veteran with honorable discharge, or combination of positions, that would evidence possession of the requisite skills necessary for satisfactory performance at this level.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A thorough character investigation and reference check will be made before appointment. Candidates who do not have good character or a conviction free record of serious offenses will be ineligible for appointment.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at appointment.
- Physical exam is required upon offer of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license in the state in which the employee resides, with appropriate endorsements required for the type of vehicle being operated. Must possess proof of completion of or successfully complete the State’s Safe Driving Program within the first six (6) months of employment. As a condition of and prior to hire, the applicant must have verified their current New Hampshire driving record supplied by the Dept. of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles indicating no major traffic violations.
Responsibilities:
- Routinely patrols NH Veterans Home, its grounds, and parking lots for security and prevention of vandalism, thefts, and fire and safety hazards. Assists in overseeing contractors working in the agency to ensure compliance with NHVH safety policies.
- Assumes responsibility for security system software used to produce and deactivate employee electronic key cards. Tracks any changes authorized and made to active cards. Identifies and solves any process concerns with the electronic key card system. Produces and tracks all keys used for doors that do not allow the usage of the security system access card. Identifies and solves issues related to the key process.
- Develops and provides training for all the Security Officer I positions on the security software system and the camera views. Tailors video surveillance settings for all Security Officer I’s on all shifts.
- Assists with and delivers ongoing safety training for all NHVH employees, including visitors and residents and/or their families as appropriate.
- Checks mechanical equipment; reports issues or discrepancies to supervisor and takes corrective action to ensure that the NH Veterans Home is maintained in a safe manner.
- Responds to alarms at the NH Veterans Home including, but not limited to, burglar, mechanical, fire, code orange and personal safety alarms, to determine the nature of the problem and reports to supervisor. Responds to calls for assistance with residents/staff exhibiting violent or disruptive behaviors. Maintains a log of daily duty activities. Generates reports on all unusual incidents, activities, accidents, fire alarms, thefts etc. Maintains other logs or reporting forms as specified by the Supervisor of Security and Safety.
- Conducts fire and other drills and tests burglar and/or fire alarm systems to ensure they are working properly. Operates closed circuit television cameras and monitors as needed.
- Investigates criminal activities, prepares reports of inspections and investigations for presentation to supervisor. Investigates workers compensation accidents and submits written reports to Safety and Security Supervisor.
- Assumes responsibility for Safety and Security Office in the absence of the supervisor.
- Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding policy and procedure development and revision. Provides up-to-date training to Security Officer I positions on local, state and federal regulations, code requirements, and agency policies as directed.
