Basic Purpose:
The Deputy Chief of Operations plays a key leadership role in overseeing the operational strategies and initiatives of the organization. In this position, you will support the Chief of Operations in managing daily operations, ensuring operational efficiency, and implementing strategic projects. You will lead cross-functional teams, drive process improvements, and contribute to the overall success of the organization by optimizing resource management, productivity, and service delivery.
Typical Functions:
- Assists the Chief of Operations in developing, implementing, and refining operational strategies to meet the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Leads and mentors operational teams to ensure effective execution of day-to-day operations.
- Oversees the planning and execution of operational projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Develops, tracks, and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess and improve operational efficiency.
- Identifies areas for process improvement and recommends innovative solutions to streamline workflows and increase productivity.
- Collaborates with senior leadership to align operational strategies with organizational priorities.
- Manages resource allocation, ensuring optimal use of people, technology, and capital.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with relevant industry regulations, standards, and internal policies.
- Provides leadership and direction during times of crisis or operational disruptions.
- Assists with budgeting, forecasting, and financial management of the operations department.
Level Descriptor:
At this level, incumbents are assigned responsibilities for directing and coordinating functions and activities related to multiple divisions of the agency, including the direction and supervision of administrators who are responsible for the direction of other programs included in the assigned area of responsibility.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of administration; of correctional support operations and methods; of laws pertaining to operational support units; of the legislative process; and of the principles of management and supervision. Knowledge of, and skill in, the use and application of appropriate information technology. Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of others; to interpret, analyze, and resolve highly complex and technical information; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships, to organize and manage several projects simultaneously; and to analyze complex situations and adopt an appropriate course of action.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and six years of professional business or public administration experience, including four years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and a willingness to travel extensively throughout the state.
