The Associate for Research and Analysis is a full-time position in the Office of Student Success at SUNY System Administration in Albany, NY. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Transformational Initiatives, the successful candidate will lead and support the research, data analysis, and program evaluation efforts for SUNY ASAP|ACE, which launched in spring 2024 across 25 partner campuses, currently serves over 4,200 SUNY students, and is planning to expand to 6,000 students in fall 2025.
This position involves managing research projects, developing and analyzing surveys, reviewing and interpreting both campus and system data, liaising with outside research agencies, as well as producing reports and preparing presentations for both internal and external constituents. The Associate supports System-wide academic and strategic planning and public accountability efforts as well as the development and implementation of policies and initiatives by appropriate utilization and analysis of data.
This role requires strong project management skills, proficiency in tools used for data collection and analysis, and a clear understanding of evidence-based approaches to improving student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee research and data analysis efforts to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of student success programs, especially SUNY ASAP|ACE.
Design, manage, analyze, and interpret surveys to assess program outcomes, leveraging tools like Qualtrics for efficient data collection and reporting.
Collaborate with internal and external parties, including campus leaders, system staff, external funders, and outside research agencies to support data sharing, program evaluation, and various research initiatives.
Create and deliver tailored reports, briefs, visualizations, and presentations that align with the specific needs of a variety of audiences, ensuring clarity, relevance, and depth when necessary.
Lead data projects from inception to completion, establishing timelines, reviewing deliverables, and maintaining accountability for both internal and external parties.
Develop and implement strategies for continuously improving the integration of campus and system data from a variety of sources to enable ready access to actionable insights and critical program data.
Author and maintain relevant data dictionaries, ensuring consistency and clarity, and utilize them to interpret, structure, and analyze data effectively.
Serve as a liaison with campuses and provide guidance to enhance their understanding and use of data for decision-making and program management purposes.
Develop a comprehensive knowledge of ASAP|ACE, including its goals, research base, policies, benchmarks, and outcomes to inform strategic data practices and evaluation.
Provide actionable recommendations to improve program evaluation practices and the use of data for continuous improvement.
Document procedures and analyses while responding promptly and accurately to both scheduled and ad hoc requests for data and insights from internal and external stakeholders.
In this role, and with integrity, the Associate for Research and Analysis provides information, data, and analysis in an accurate and timely manner to support SUNY's core mission and decision-making, System Administration and Board of Trustees, and; and meeting mandatory federal and state reporting requirements.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., education, data analytics, social science, etc.).
At least three (3) years of experience working with large-scale, complex datasets and relational databases.
Strong understanding of data standards and management, with demonstrated proficiency in data manipulation and analysis.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, pivot to other deliverables quickly, and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
High attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve inconsistencies in data, reports, and visualizations.
Desired Qualifications:
Five (5) or more years of experience in higher education, with a focus on research or program evaluation.
Expertise in using SQL or MS Access and familiarity with relational databases for analysis and querying.
Formal coursework or training in research methods, including experience with qualitative and quantitative techniques.
Proven experience translating research findings into actionable recommendations for diverse audiences.
Familiarity with higher education policies and student success initiatives.
Proficiency in Qualtrics and data visualization platforms such as Tableau for effective communication of insights.
Additional Information:
Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $75,000-$90,000 annually.
