Finger Lakes Community College is recruiting for an Associate Provost of Curriculum and Instruction. The Associate Provost of Curriculum and Instruction plays a pivotal role in shaping FLCC’s academic landscape by fostering a culture of inclusive teaching excellence and holistic student success. This position requires a visionary leader who collaboratively guides and inspires faculty, drives curricular innovation, and cultivates equitable learning environments that close equity gaps and empowers all students to thrive. As a key member of the Academic and Student Affairs Leadership Team, the Associate Provost reports directly to the Provost, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and supervises the Director of Concurrent Enrollment, department chairs, and full-time and adjunct faculty. The Associate Provost oversees curriculum development, instructional quality, and academic partnerships, and ensures that FLCC’s programs meet the highest standards of academic excellence while aligning with the College's strategic goals and the evolving needs of students and the community.

Specific Functions

Leadership and Vision

  • Embraces a commitment for extensive collaboration with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to inform, understand and develop evolving student success strategies.
  • Demonstrates strong intercultural competence to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse environment.
  • Provides vision and support to all members of the Curriculum and Instruction team.
  • Leads and inspires faculty to embrace and apply inclusive, equity-driven teaching practices in support of holistic student success.
  • Provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of innovative instructional strategies and academic programs.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and curriculum design.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and develops a student-centered team in cutting-edge practices promoting excellence in an open access institution.
  • Fosters growth, development, and advancement of direct reports and their team members.
  • Assesses staffing needs and makes recommendations to the Provost.
  • Maintains a visible profile with campus constituencies; partners collaboratively to enhance communication on and off campus; anticipates and plans for emerging issues.

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of credit and non-credit programs, ensuring they reflect best practices and meet workforce and transfer needs.
  • Leads the development of the master course schedule, ensuring alignment with student needs, institutional goals, and resource optimization.
  • Ensures course schedules, including modalities of teaching and learning, are student-centered and strategic to support student retention and completion.
  • Collaborates on and approves academic exceptions, course substitutions, and graduation waivers.

Policies & Procedures

  • Administers FLCC academic policies and procedures to maintain high standards and ensure compliance with institutional and SUNY system requirements.
  • Serves as a resource for faculty and staff on academic policies, promoting consistent and equitable application across all instructional units.

Partnerships, Articulation, and Transfer

  • Strengthens partnerships with local K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and industry to support seamless student transitions and program innovation.
  • Supports and expands concurrent enrollment courses and early college scholar programming in collaboration with internal staff, administrators, and faculty and high school teams to ensure equitable access, alignment with the College’s student learning and success expectations, and compliance with SUNY and MSCHE criteria and standards.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of articulation and transfer agreements, including enhanced 2 2 and 3 1 agreements.
  • Collaborates with academic and student affairs teams to promote transfer pathways and ensure a smooth transition for students pursuing advanced degrees.
  • Works collaboratively with the Associate Provost of Student Affairs to support and enhance student retention and the student learning experience.
  • Responsible for working with Information Technology to ensure systems continue to be appropriate for academic purposes and are responsive to instructional needs.
  • Serves as a liaison to SUNY and other academic organizations, ensuring compliance and alignment with system-wide initiatives.

Strategic Planning, Budgeting, & Data-Informed Decision Making

  • Collaborates on institutional strategic planning efforts, with a focus on achieving equitable student outcomes and holistic student success.
  • Leads efforts to assess program health, including determining when to add new programs that align with workforce needs and student interests to maintain a vibrant and relevant academic portfolio.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness and sustainability of existing programs, recommending enhancements or sunsetting programs as necessary to optimize institutional resources and outcomes.
  • Develops and recommends a fiscally responsible operating budget for the areas of responsibility that align with strategic and division goals and core functions.
  • Responsible for the control of the adopted budget for the current fiscal year.
  • Actively pursues alternative funding through grants and foundation sources.
  • Develops and implements annual plans for the Curriculum and Instruction unit, aligning with institutional priorities, and advancing initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, and student success.
  • Utilizes data and research to inform policies and practices, driving improvements in curriculum, instruction, and student learning.

Qualifications

Required

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education.
  • Full-time teaching experience.
  • A comprehensive understanding of curriculum design, instructional technology, instructional modalities, and student learning assessment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in academic programs and initiatives.
  • Experience leading initiatives that promote student success and close equity gaps.
  • Proven ability to inspire and lead faculty, foster collaboration, and manage change effectively.
  • Digital literacy.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • A terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D.) from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
  • Leadership in academic administration within a community college setting.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience working with labor unions.
  • Experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
  • Shared governance experience.
  • Knowledge of SUNY system policies and practices.
  • Familiarity with workforce development and industry partnerships.

Benefits And Salary Range

  • The competitive salary range for this position is $99,828 - $123,627 and is commensurate with qualifications
