Our client, a NYC-based, leading gene therapy company is seeking a Vice President of Finance . Reporting to the COO and working closely with the senior management team, the VP of Finance will be responsible for building, developing, and leading a successful finance function in an international fast-paced, high-growth environment. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, financial reporting, financial systems, internal controls, taxes, audits, payroll, and SOX documentation and compliance.
Responsibilities include :
Assist in formulating the company’s future direction by providing input on the company’s business plan, financial and tax strategies, budgeting, and forecasting.
Develop, implement and maintain accurate, timely and robust systems for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and control.
Ensure that effective internal controls are in place including compliance with GAAP, applicable international and U.S. federal, state, and local regulatory laws, and rules for financial and tax reporting.
Provide leadership in the development and improvement of internal controls, accounting policies, and infrastructure to support business scale and growth.
Ensure system output is well structured, reliable and easily understood.
Interpret operating results and make recommendations for improved profitability, return on investment, working capital and other financial indicators.
Oversee cash flow planning, forecasting, cost controls and expense targets, ensuring availability of funds as needed.
Plan and manage annual financial statement audits with external auditors.
Oversee the coordination of financial audits, SOX Controls and the proper filing of tax returns.
Serve as a subject matter expert on compliance and financial controls pertaining to Finance / Accounting.
Ensure that the organization’s accounting records are maintained in accordance with established legal, regulatory (e.g. tax) and company standards.
Actively monitor financial risks and ensure that risk mitigation strategies are in place.
Manage relationships with external tax consultants, auditors, bankers, and insurance representatives.
Establish strong relationships cross-functionally and be the accounting expert for the company.
Requirements / Qualifications :
BA / BS in Business, Finance, or Accounting; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
CPA certification a plus
15 years of experience in Finance / FP&A / Accounting roles, preferably in life sciences
Strong grasp on U.S. and international GAAP, financial reporting, state and federal taxes
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to form effective relationship throughout the organization and communicate complex analytical models / financial concepts in a synthesized and concise manner
System savvy and expert knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting applications
Ability to conduct business, budget, risk and market analysis
Forecasting abilities
Knowledge of federal, state, and local accounting compliance regulations and reporting
Excellent quantitative and data visualization skills with a strong attention to detail
