What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower School Music Teacher, Part-time position at The Steward School?
The Steward School seeks an enthusiastic and committed music teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. This position will include teaching classes in the Lower School (grades JK-5). This is a part-time faculty position reporting to the Director of Lower School.
Responsibilities
Core duties for this position include:
- Teaching sections of elementary music - planning and delivering creative and innovative instruction that develops music skills and enhances students knowledge.
- Ability to accompany student performances.
- Preparing for two annual music programs.
- Utilizing technology to facilitate instruction.
- Collaborating with fellow faculty and administrators.
- Familiarity with differentiated learning instruction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree and major concentration in Music and/or Education is preferred. A Masters or higher and Virginia K-12 Music Education Choral Music certification is a plus.
- 3-5 years of relevant classroom experience, including lower school instruction and independent school experience, are a plus.
- Technological proficiency in the classroom, including Google Educational apps, interactive whiteboards, and electronic grade books.
- Familiarity with differentiated learning instruction
Required Abilities and Skills:
- Genuine love of children and sense of humor.
- Strong communication and collaborative skills.
- Microsoft Office proficient, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; Google Education and Rubicon a plus.
- Proven ability to exercise mature judgment and maintain confidentiality.
